BB - 7/2/16 - It is scheduled to open July 10th.

Imogene - 6/27/16 - Closed from Telluride near summit by dozer clearing heavy snow. Should be open soon.

Yeah, I assumed it would be a while before they got back up there.. wasn't thinking about others on here reading and thinking they were open. I was actually one of the first over black bear last year.. and I think that was July 11th.

I am trying to make a trip to Utah to pop my cruisers off-road cherry (and admittedly mine ). Oklahoma is no fun for cruisers... (I know I know, Northeast and Green Country, but I crave the mountains!)

Can anyone recommend some good trails/places for novices with mildly modded trucks??

Here you go. My wife and I did this in our mod'd 93 4Runner with ease. You can traveres Island In The Sky with ease, and then look for more challenging areas. If you're going - make reservations ahead of time! Take lots and lots of water. If you think you have enough - take more.

Awesome, thanks man. We are gonna go and do a scouting trip. See how the truck does, see how we do, and the places we like. Probably gonna AirBNB a cheap place to call home base, and then go from there. Camp out a couple nights if we find a nice place.

Once we get that trip in the bag, we are gonna plan a more epic adventure out there, and gear up accordingly. Gonna try to do a week and a half and hit the big 5 out there. Will be a tight squeeze, but we wanna see as much as we can.

You will love it. The scenery is -- awe inspiring. Just breath taking.

There are camping areas (commercial) outside of the town of Moab if you want to set up a camp there. But camping in Canyon Lands is fantastic - if not very rustic. My wife and I are hoping to have our Land Cruiser set up to head out there again - maybe next year (fingers crossed!).

NOTE: You are not allowed to take pets into Canyon Lands. There are kennels in Moab you can check your dog into, but it's a HUGE no no to take fido into the park. Just a heads up.

Thanks for the heads up. I remember reading somewhere about no pets. I dont think my dog would put up with the long ass drive to Utah anyway.

When I was a kid I was in that area a few times, Bryce Canyon and Arches, but now I wanna go back and get the experience as an adult. Can't wait. Hopefully my boss lets me off

Crap, I missed you by a day! My parents rented a Buick enclave for the week as we visited. I didn't have enough time to get my 80 ready, unfortunately. I didn't see any going up or down pikes peak :(. I did see fj cruisers everywhere and a pair of 80s at a house after we left garden of the gods though. People riding their bike up there kind of blew my mind lol. I'm used to under 1k ft elevation and just about passed out at the summit. Beautiful view though!

Loaded her last Friday night (my birthday) for an early morning departure for a fishing trip with my son. Not sure where we are going but we'll know when we get there. All I know is that the weather is great and there isn't any baseball or work this weekend! Enjoy your weekend!

That would of been a great start to a hardcore project. These 80 chassis are a great foundation to other body types like the aluminum J4 4 door builds that have been popping in the last few years like the Redline fjute or these.

You do realise that there is a demand for these in climates where they salt the roads in winter....

Makes me sad to see a good part destroyed....

It was in the classifieds. For $200. Shoulda spoke up. Or payed rent for a place to keep it. :)

That was the intention (not a 4-door 40, gay), but there are better ways of getting better results

Oh, buy the way, I did nothing with my 80.

So talk to me, what is better results in your mind? I have a family, so 4 doors fit, but maybe in a few years I can do something like this.

Easier in my mind to put all the suspension mounts on the vintage frame rather then fabricate all the body mounts.

The cruiser is resting this weekend after a 3600 mile trip to Banff with stops at Craters of the Moon, Glacier, and Yellowstone. Burned a lot of gas and 1.5 quarts of oil, but not a single mechanical issue

Please tell me you went to Grand Teton after. Yellowstone is kind of cool whereas Grand Teton is awe inspiring.
