What book is this? Not FSM or Haynes?

I found this cool repair manual in a lot of parts that I bought, it’s got lots of good photos. Pls see attached photos.
It looks like the FSM and the Haynes manual had a baby?
Maybe I should scan it and add it to trollhole’s collection?
Has a cool page about vacuum diagnostics.
Also found a fairey overdrive manual if anyone is interested.

I’ve seen other books elude to it, but this one actually explicitly states that the valves are to be adjusted with the engine running. Interesting.

Many years ago I adjusted the valves on a running engine. All I can say is it hard on feeler gauges. I copied a bunch of pages from one of these books at the public library. This was the main library in in Phoenix which flooded this last summer. Wonder if it was one of the books destroyed in that flood.

It's an old Chiltons. I bought one around 1980 when I got my Cruiser.
Mine's not in much better, maybe worse shape than yours. I kept it in the box under the seat and it got wet and I salvaged what I could.:(

I think I might have that same book. Could it be The Land Cruiser bible from Moses Ludel? It's probably been a decade since i looked at it, but usually Chilton or Haynes manuals aren't so wordy and don't have nice pictures.

I just got that book, it came with my 40. The chapters look different then the OP, but mind may be a different version.

It did have the original purchase receipt stuck to page 27 from the PO in '98 from TLC in Van Nuys California.

What you have is in fact a Chilton's Repair & Tune-Up Guide. This is what the cover used to look like:

Mine is a 1974 first edition and your pages match what is in my book.

Yep, I have one in my collection as well. Not a very good book (typical Chilton's), but a neat piece of history.

Here's a pdf of my Chilton's manual, if anyone wants to print one out or download:

‪Toyota Land Cruiser Repair & Tune-up Guide 1966-1974 FJ40 FJ45 FJ55 F Series Engine‬‏ - Google Drive

Its not in much better shape than yours, but I have another hardbound copy that is in great shape. If the link does not work, go to my google site at the following link and the Chilton's manual is the last one on the page:

Yeah, back in the late '70s, my friends and I tried that Chilton's method of adjusting valves with the motor running. Our feeler guages got ruined. Never did that again.

Otherwise, I kind of liked the Chiltons. I used it to assemble my F135 engine. Lame in many other respects, but I thought it was great with regard to the engine.

Yeeesss!!! That looks like the one!
See photos below for prices.
Also Below is a photo of an interesting passage on page 12.
Apparently I’ve been doing it all wrong!

They show up on flea-bay (at a reasonable price) once and a while. I wanted a hard copy of that and eventually found it for about $35 shipped, in very good condition. Just wait for someone who isn't a book dealer to list it.

Thanks for posting the link to the download of this manual. I will add it to my download page right now!

It's added! Under the FSM section is a new sub-section titled Chiltons_TuneUp_Guide where you can click on each section to download to your computer.

I have all of those too!! This was a relic from my detached garage that is stuffed with cruisers and parts.

I know - just wanted to make sure newbies find the downloads
