Sections of the tread on a MTR do seem to have much smaller blocks than KM2s. That's what seemed to lend credence to the idea that they were better in those conditions.. oh well.
I agree but as I said earlier. Last weekend I had to air down to 8 psi before realized decent performance in snow that was
Kind of wet and semi packed. I have had MTR's before and do like them in rocks and mud. IMO the original MTR was a better all around tire.

Perhaps a set of MTR's with additional siping. Les Schwab swears by it and will add siping for you.

Which suspension you have? inches? Just curious. And I would go 315 tires. I like Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ

TJM Springs with 30mm spacers, so approx 4 inch lift. I also like the Baja's

I went with 305's due to already having a set for spares.

General Grabbers! Can't remember the exact model, but they are fairly aggressive tread, but still ride smooth and fairly quiet on the road. 0 trouble on snow or mud, and after 16k miles, they still look new in terms of tread wear. I think I paid just over $1k for all four including dismount/mount, Balance, and alignment at town fair tire.

......I had the Hankook Dynapro MT previously. They were great for the first 20,000 miles. Then they started to wear FAST, with cupping, and an uneven pattern. Rotating the tires didn't help and as they got older, the rubber compound started to get hard.
While I didn't have the cupping or uneven wear pattern, I noticed exactly the same FAST wear after about 20K miles. They literally looked and measured near new until around just before 20k, then I got about 3k from them until they got to 1/4-tread remaining. They didn't thrill me in my limited snow usage but were great on the street and off road on rocks and clay. Size 295.

FWIW, I replaced them with 315 KO2's. I'll likely switch to KM2 if I buy another vehicle for daily use.

I like my Duratracs for snow and ice, but I don't do rocks at all.

I have 30K miles on my Duratracs and they are hardly showing wear. 285/75/16

Running the 315 Cooper STT Pro tires here as well.
Here are my thoughts
Pros:
Awesome look, very aggressive
Pretty quiet for a mud terrain tire on the highway.
Great in snow, sand and mud. Haven't been in the jagged rocks with mine so I can't attest to them.
Not too heavy as compared to other mud terrain tires.

Cons:
Ice, friggin scary on ice. Then again you need lots of siping or studs for ice.
Seemed to take a lot of lead when balancing but they are vibration free.

BFG KO2 37's did great in the snow, didn't even bother airing down.

I'd suggest the Falken Wild Peak. Though, I'd also steer you toward the A/T. Like you, I really wanted the MT. They just look cool and aggressive. In fact, I'm running the Wild Peak M/T in a 35x12.5R17. Really, I love them. I'm blown away by how quiet these tires are for an M/T. It's definitely one of the many strong suits of this tire. But, in hind-site, for how much road use I put on them, I wish I had selected the A/T in the same size. Off road, the A/T perform fantastic in all but the muddiest terrain. On road, they just kill it.

My friends rig on the exact same tire, but in the A/T:

I'm runningRT03's MT 295/75/16 on stock rims. Hankook Dynapro MT RT03 Mud Tire Reviews

I don't drive the truck very much (about 4k in almost 2 years). So I can't say alot about wear but they are quiet on the road, have good reviews, deep lugs and air down well. Deep snow they perform well, not so well on ice but its a MT.. You can add studs but they recommend that you do it right away while still new.

"The Hankook Dynapro MT is a little above a "middle of the road" mud tire that does decent in various conditions."

I like to STT Pros also but I have heard they don't have a strong sidewall. Any truth to this?

Not in our experience, have beat them like a red headed,,,, they work well.

I love my atzp2. Not a mud but great tire so far. I had bfg ko2s and duratracs and this are much better

I am running the procomp extreme MT2s in 315s. I have to say I really like the tire. Sidewalls deform nicely when aired down. Run smoother than the toyo mts. Do very well in all types of terrain except roads with snow and ice. Don't dig in to sand as much as I thought they would and don't seem to chunk badly either. Was going to try the Goodyear MTs but I saved 80 bucks a tire on these, and couldn't say no. This is my second set of Procomps MTs. I will buy again.
