I agree but as I said earlier. Last weekend I had to air down to 8 psi before realized decent performance in snow that wasSections of the tread on a MTR do seem to have much smaller blocks than KM2s. That's what seemed to lend credence to the idea that they were better in those conditions.. oh well.
Which suspension you have? inches? Just curious. And I would go 315 tires. I like Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ
TJM Springs with 30mm spacers, so approx 4 inch lift. I also like the Baja's
While I didn't have the cupping or uneven wear pattern, I noticed exactly the same FAST wear after about 20K miles. They literally looked and measured near new until around just before 20k, then I got about 3k from them until they got to 1/4-tread remaining. They didn't thrill me in my limited snow usage but were great on the street and off road on rocks and clay. Size 295.......I had the Hankook Dynapro MT previously. They were great for the first 20,000 miles. Then they started to wear FAST, with cupping, and an uneven pattern. Rotating the tires didn't help and as they got older, the rubber compound started to get hard.
Have you run the STT Pro's in snow or ice?
Running the 315 Cooper STT Pro tires here as well.
Here are my thoughts
Pros:
Awesome look, very aggressive
Pretty quiet for a mud terrain tire on the highway.
Great in snow, sand and mud. Haven't been in the jagged rocks with mine so I can't attest to them.
Not too heavy as compared to other mud terrain tires.
Cons:
Ice, friggin scary on ice. Then again you need lots of siping or studs for ice.
Seemed to take a lot of lead when balancing but they are vibration free.
I'd suggest the Falken Wild Peak. Though, I'd also steer you toward the A/T. Like you, I really wanted the MT. They just look cool and aggressive. In fact, I'm running the Wild Peak M/T in a 35x12.5R17. Really, I love them. I'm blown away by how quiet these tires are for an M/T. It's definitely one of the many strong suits of this tire. But, in hind-site, for how much road use I put on them, I wish I had selected the A/T in the same size. Off road, the A/T perform fantastic in all but the muddiest terrain. On road, they just kill it.

My friends rig on the exact same tire, but in the A/T:

Did you have to chain up for that???

I like to STT Pros also but I have heard they don't have a strong sidewall. Any truth to this?
