Well after 8 years of working out of my two car garage and 3 years of doing carbs and distributors and work for friends I'm moving full time into a shop and making Trollhole's Cruisers my full time job. This means I'm starting from scratch on a new shop. I've been looking a while for a place that would be big enough, secure enough and wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg. I finally found a place this past week and signed a lease.

This new place was a former storage building. So it has a security gate at the front and cameras I can access with my phone. I'm taking the end unit in the back. Actually I'm taking two units. One is a 20x40 unit with a walkin door on each end and a roll up door. A should be able to get at least 2-3 vehicles in this area. This area has a/c but no heat. So that will be something I need to work on. The area right beside the unit is 20x20 and has two roll up doors. I'm thinking this will be where I store all my parts have my office / man cave and do my engine rebuilds. Kind of the clean area as well have enough space for another vehicle. It doesn't have a/c or heat.

One good thing about it is that the utilities are free and it has free wi-fi so that's a nice plus. I have a portable a/c unit and a portacool. So I think I'll be able to stay cool in the summer. I've just got to figure out what I'm going to do for heat in the winter.

I've got some cool shelving I plan on using in the storage area. Three of these . They are 6x6x6 and have castors that can hold 1000lbs each.

I've also got these portable racks. They are around 3'x8' . The plan is to use them as my work bench. One bolted to the floor then one at bench and then one above that to have lighting under and provide more shelving. I'm planning on making 4-6 of these benches.

I've also got a bunch of these I plan to make into engine cradles. I've already converted a couple already.

I'm going to have to wire the shop. It's got power but only in one area. So I'll just put stuff in conduit. Also have to wire for the compressor and some welding outlets. The only downside to the shop is the fact it's not tall enough for a lift. Might be able to put a small one it bet that's about it.

Ive got a friend coming on the 6th to move me. So I've got to have it ready by then. I'm excited about the place. More pics to come as I get cranking. Here is the shop. Like I said it isn't much but for $550 a month in a business district and only 2 miles from the house it's a perfect starter shop. Cannot wait to get a sign up.

nicccceee..

Although I don't see a bed for Blue...or is that it by the desk?

The thing all us gearheads dream about, tough economy, if anyone can make it happen you can. All the best...

Moved about half of my stuff in yesterday. 3 big truck loads. In the pic it shows some of my inventory racks. The weight over 600lbs each. And there was no easy way to get them out. So we used the 40's winch to slowly lower them. Worked perfectly.

99% moved out of the warehouse. Last stuff left was all 40 glass and my hard top. What a crazy 3 days. Now I can take my time and finish the shop around my current projects. Somewhat sad to leave my old job of 15 years. I'm now living the life of no weekends. Full bore. And I haven't even moved out of my shop at home where all my tools are. All I due time. I definitely going to have to install some more shop lights. 9 8ft fluorescents should do the job.

So I have these nice Herman miller cubicles from my office and we were just going to leave them for the buildings owner. But instead I thought of a use for them. I have to run power all around my shop for all the tools. Plus with just a cinder block wall I was going to get pretty cold in the winter as well I was going to have to mount selves all over the place for various tools and such. Instead I decided to line the walls with the cubicle panels. They will all connect together. Plus they have three separate circuits running around the bottom. Plus they have all kinds of shelves that mount to them and even some under counter lighting. So I took it all apart and hauled it to the new place. Only particular issue is how to mount them at the top so they stay against the wall. I don't know if a wedge type anchor would work on cinder block. Was just planning on drilling holes in the walls up at the top. I've got a bunch of 1/2" wedge anchors that I use to tie rack to the floor but something tells me they might split the cinder block. Any idea on anchors?

Also have 6 nice double file cabinets that went under the desks that lock. If this idea works it might be a cheap way to set up some shop shelves and power. People here are basically giving this stuff away with so many businesses going out of business. I tried to sell these 6 cubicles for 6 months for $300 and the only person who came and looked at them said they were too big. Should provide some good insulation as well.

And this was just a small percentage of dog food the mice had stashed in the base of them. I must have cleaned up 20lbs of that stuff. Looks like they had been stashing it for 6 years. Must have been 10 types of dog food. I don't feed my dogs at work. This was from another employees dog.

That older HM stuff rocked!!...a 1/4" hex or Allen wrench and you were good to go.

The best part was it was all covered with a fabric from a company out of Guilford, Maine...it can be shampooed and brought back to original..(just don't soak the panel)

you really can't get a grasp on how big those racks are till you see them being winched out of the back of the truck.

I've been hoping you'd open up on your own since you're just down the mountain from me. No good cruiser shops here and I don't want to pay shop rates for a non-cruiser flunky to work on my stuff. I'll be hitting you up before too long.

I know you're still getting set up but what are you set up to handle? Good luck, hope you can make a run of it.
