I’m guessing with the 3rd removed, the inner ends of the axle would get forced downward in the axle tube from vehicle weight and then putting the axle bearings in a bind and locking up.

I wonder if you jacked up the rear and got the wheels off the ground and used something to center the inner axle ends in the tube, maybe the bind in the bearings would be relieved and the wheels would turn. Enough to get it on the trailer anyway. Just a thought.

Why not disconnect the rear driveshaft. Lock the transfer case and see it you can drag the rear axle to load and unload off the trailer.

But really should give better details on how the diff was removed and rear axle now locked up. With the rear diff in place a brake problem could cause the axle to lock up. No way the diff can come out unless both axle shafts were pulled out or both broke in just the right spot. Need more to the story. May be a simple solution if have all the information.
 
I am not sure why they are locked up

It will roll. Backwards only. And when brakes applied it stops rolling.
 
Are you saying the diff is out or the driveshaft is removed? Take a picture of the front side showing the hole where the diff goes. Should be able to see the inner axle shafts inside.
 
This is all very confusing... What is meant by "no 3rd member"? If the third is out and the rig won't move, then it has to be a brake issue, there is nothing else that would prevent the axles from turning.
In the amount of time this has been debated, you could have stripped the third of the pinion or ring and spider gears and reinstalled it and the c-clips to keep the axles in while towing.
 
I just had one towed with no third member. Call a flat bed in. Had a 55 towed prior to that with stubborn rear tires. Flat bed rigs do not care one way or another.

Anyway. I’m getting a tow company to put it on a trailer. Then just going to drag it off

Okay that makes sense. US market was always a semi floating rear axle and those the brakes drums have to be pulled off. Then quite a bid needs to be done to the diff to remove C clips that keeps the axle shaft from sliding out. At that point the outer wheel bearings are the only thing that could lock up with brake drums and diff removed.

Just inspect the nut that is exposed with the driveshaft removed. Just for any free play side to side and in and out on the flange. Last time I had one with free play it was a bad pinion bearing.

Like LITP said, it should be obvious if this is the problem. If it’s loose enough to be an issue you’d be able to detect it from messing with the flange.

I had this same issue while pulling a 40 out the woods the next town over from me and trying to get it on a dolly. Tightened the pinion nut and it rolled fine and I plowed my driveway for two years with that truck.
 
gotta be local mudders with a trailer and winch that would help?

I'm 4 hours south so it's probably impractical but would be willing
