Wanted to start a build thread today. I find them to be helpful when working on a cruiser. My plans are to keep it all Toyota. Since it did not come with a drivetrain I plan to install a 2f out of a 78 fj40, Axles from a 79 fj40, with plans to change to fj60 differentials. Also 16 in rims to get that tall and skinny look. I have a PTO winch for it. I would like to keep it as original looking as possible. I am a dune beige guy, but that Spring Green is growing on me. LOL.

Cheers
KevO

the 79 diffs are the same as 60 diffs.

that is a nice starting point.
spare tire under the bed?
some 45lp's had the lights at the end of the crossmember and others were in the bed.

Thanks for the tech tip on the axles!

It has the tire carrier under the rear. If you can called that jibbed up mess a tire carrier!

And while I'm under there where do these go to? I don't seem to see any attachment points

Kevo, that roof is in amazing shape, front corners are usually very rusty, definitely a dry climate California survivor!
From what I gather it has been in storage for the last 30 years. Always like a project with good bones.

would 64 have had a centered rear diff?

the spare tire carrier looks like it was hanging down and they backed into something crunching it into a mess,
the plate between the 2 tubes by the sway bar link would have been near the rear crossmember, there would have been a threaded rod to secure in the up position
the 2 handles that flared out at the end are both broken off.

By late 64, early 65 all landcruisers were offset Diffs. 63 was the end of the center diff....( Paul the difference is it’s a removable top 45, as opposed to the fixed top shorties( which all were center diff)they never got a center diff, too late in production.

Kevos37, you live in Sutter?
I was in Yuba City for a number of years.
I'll be watching your build. That's a great looking 45 to start with. Was it local?
