 That's much worse than I thought.

Yeah, well you can't know until you pull everything off. No worries. My plan is...cut, clean, weld, clean, POR, tube, done....no more than five minutes!

And you can see in the background one of the reason's I've been distracted lately. The wife's car crapped out so I had to buy her a new one...the good thing about that is she now has to cook dinner at least three times a week (I grill on the weekends) and give me plenty of Piggie time!

I should have taken some pics this past week but I didn't. I have a copy of TT w/ a pic of Lance's Pig Buggy. I'll scan a pic and post. The use the upper fender and upper 1/3 of the lower fender, trim the wheel lip off, tube around the side, and replace the lower 2/3 of the lower fender w/ thin plate (I'm not sure the thickness) to allow rocks to slide by...

Forgot to say that I jacked up my Pig to diagnose a brake fluid leak coming from the rear driver's drum...and :censor::censor::censor: I could not find my lug wrench for the life of me. I hate spending an hour on something and getting nowhere when I should have been done in 15 minutes!!! What size lug wrench do I need...I have to go buy one now.

 We've all been there. If it happens again, just grab a 21mm socket and an extension and your biggest 1/2" drive ratchet or a big torque wrench. I rarely use a regular lug wrench any more since I started torquing all the lug nuts by hand...

I got the driver's fender off this evening. The rust situation isn't great but isn't as bad as the passenger's side. I'll clean and POR the front 3/4. For the rear 1/4 I'll cut out a little rust. I'm not sure if I'll replace the rust with new sheet so I can reattach the under fender vent or if I'll just put a piece of sheet over the vent to simplify things. You can see that I stripped off quite a few bolts...

Pic 1) front of under fender - only POR needed
Pic 2) rear of under fender - little fab work needed

Progress Progress Progress!!!

Well I am making some progress and am happy. I have the patch for the driver's rear wheel well in. I have over half of the driver's floorboard patched. I have a few more hours to work today and all day tomorrow. I'm waiting on a body mount from IPOR and can't finish the patch on the passenger's floorboard until I receive the body mount but I'm shooting by the end of tomorrow to have the entire floor patched w/ the exception of the passenger floor but will have all door sills patched and have the patch ready to go into the passenger's floor.....I also plan on having the IPOR seat mount tacked in, holes drilled to attach seats and Tuffy console.

Schweet!

Oh, and no pics for a few days. The wife is traveling w/ the camera.

So here are some pics. I got about 20 hours in over the holiday weekend.

Pic 1) Some rust cut out of passenger inner fender area. I'm going to remove the battery, windshield washer fluid resevoir, etc - cut out remaining rust and patch up with some sheet.
Pic 2) Passenger rear wheel well area. This whole area was cut out because of rust. I used several pieces of sheet to patch this area up coupled with some massive, nasty welds. I also recreated the lip that holds the door weather stripping.
Pic 3) Pic of same area as pic #2 with a patch I am working on for the door sill. Still trying to figure this one out.

A couple more pics!

Pic 1) Driver's door area. I replaced most of the door sill, all of the lip that holds the door weather stripping, and patched a huge hole in the floor.
Pic 2) Interior view of same area in Pic 1.
Pic 3) View from underside of driver's floor area - same area as Pic 1 and 2. You can see in Pic 3 where I welded a piece of 16 gauge steel appx 10 inches tall by 24 inches long to the IPOR slider up to create part of the door weather stripping lip. I don't know if this is the right way to do things but it made sense at the time. If its wrong I'm sure someone will let me know and I can easily fix it w/ 20 seconds w/ my sawzall.

My welding still su**s but it doesn't s**k as much as it did a few months ago. I'm still planning on grinding the welds down a bit, tack welding any big pinholes that I find, gring those down, paint w/ POR 15 and then top coat/top 'caulk' with POR Epoxy, prime and Durabak the fool out of it!

I toyed with the idea of trying to buy this pig when yooper put it up for sale a while ago. I knew he was looking for the "right" kind of owner that would treat this pig right, and I thought I might be able to be that guy.

Having read this thread, I now know that I was wrong. You're kicking ass with this thing! Maybe someday, years from now, I'll have the time and skills to pick up a pig and give it the eventhough treatment.
