The FJ55 Weatherstrip Guide

All I would need are the two different profiles, and a good condition one to help make the jig. Any takers?

Got one. Its used and weathered, split at one corner, but it will get you the idea. In fact its boxed and ready to ship if you want...although the soonest I could ship would be monday.

I think there are going to be 3 profiles. whynot just see if one of the professors could make it an "extra credit" project to design and machine the injection molds for a one piece deal? Afterall, the majority of the expense is in design and machine work for molded rubber...

Ok as promised.

So there are two that work better tan the original one I chose from JCwhitney. Though they also have drawbacks. One they are not grey or vinyl like the original but black and made out of rubber. Though they do have a texture similar to the original. Two the headliner clips will need to be modified as they have a lip that interferes.

Personally I like them both I think the drawbacks are worth a try. I have pricing on these from Fairchild at the office and will post them up tomorrow.

Holy Cow Troll!

This is a great thread - thanks to all who have contributed...

Fixed Window Rubber

Pricing is a tough one for me to determine. I have to deal with the set up fees, fabrication cost per item, oil industry price increases and a grumpy manufacturer. I will have to sell about 20 to 30 sets of an item to break even. So far, sales have not reached these break even levels. Fixed window rubber at $449 is below the cost to make the item. I am non-profit. I am not taking advantage of you.

Customers haven't been breaking down the doors trying to buy the FJ55 parts I sell. PVCruisers found out the business is not easy.

I count myself as a good shopper. Like most people, I look for deals, value pricing and at least 20% off on everything.

Okay. I have been slow getting sets of the fixed window rubber made. My kid's college costs have put a dent on any cash hanging around.

John, any idea when these will be available to ship? Your site shows them as "Back Ordered".

Hi Charles,

I ordered only a few sets but I have been snake-bitten in the past with no sales. My manufacturer has his own time schedule. I have to take my turn to get things produced.

Let me know when you have stock and hopefully it will coordinate with when I have funds!!

Lou,

"lower tailgate runner no longer available"

The problem with the piece is the felt. A production run of rubber from a vendor will not be cheap. Felt is needed on the running contact with the glass. The FJ55 comes with some complicated pieces.

Lou, have you seen this:

Precision Replacement Parts ALL-RUBBER WINDOW CHANNELS : JC Whitney: Car Parts & Accessories

There are more pages, but I'm too tired to look further.

Best

Mark; have requested some samples; will share my findings, thanks again;

Lou,

I have used JC Whitney, Style 24, ZX184879T for the door window channels in a customer's door. Sorry no pictures. You have to make your own 90 degree cuts. Tell me what you think when you get a sample.

Great thread, It would be great to put together a complete rubber package for a FJ55 refurbishing and also of course seperate if prefered.

I know first thing I will be doing is pulling windows and I am sure the rubber will fall apart.

Thanks
Rob

firewall to hood seal

am needing this seal........pix courtesy of "poohs55".........when this seal goes then the water drains down the firewall and runs to the ground...........BUT when the bellows and firewall grommets are rotted out......... then the water runs into the cockpit and helps jumpstart the rust process in the floorboards; mine are gone so am needing a good sample also need to know if they are different pieces or just an extrusion that has been glued into place with a curve........TIA;

Mine are old and brittle, but still hanging on. I know they are not effective because I also get water in the floorboards after a good rain. My grommets may be toast as well.

door seals/body moulding

Just a quick observation/update. I used the jcwhitney stuff, listed on the first page of the thread. (body moulding zx132562b) There seems to be a recurring concern about the difficulty of closing the doors. I found this was true when I assembled the truck, however....
After one year, the doors shut just fine, and are still tightly sealed.
