Glad everyone was safe and injuries weren’t worse. I escaped with zero injuries but pride and it sent me on quite the cruiser journey after it. I was EXTREMELY lucky.
It was at the sand dunes around Walden CO at the photo shoot for the new FJ Cruiser. -20F. Just had taken my seatbelt off a few minutes before to check on other cruisers, @treerootCO and @PabloCruise as clutch’s were freezing. Hopped back in, was looking at my rear view and caught a small drive on the front which pulled the rear end around. Went into the deeper snow then over she went and stuck hard on the side caving in the roof.
Luckily without my seatbelt I ended up in floorboards squeezed by the roof. Had I had my seatbelt on I probably wouldn’t be here.

Good news, we rolled it over, started it, pushed the roof up and drove it the rest of the day. Even made the FJcruiser brochure somewhere I have it. Sadly parted out on here so lots of people got parts from it.

Terrible quality pic, but I miss that Pig.

Sorry for the highjack! Let’s see some more saltwagon work!
don't worry about the hyjacking! I love the conversation. sometimes its good to talk about these things. yeah a good running fj55 without gobs of rust is really hard to find. again one day I will get one.
Some good ‘ol Rocky Mountain Oysters. I live fairly close to Bruce’s but I've never been there. If there’s a Colorado Mud meetup, count me in!
hahah I still need to make a NC meet up but I would be down for a Colorado meet up as well.

better than half the facebook marketplace interactions I've had!
are we NORMAL... Normal is boring. No for real though I met @theglobb and his family through mud and they are wonderful people.

Not a lot done yesterday on the engine. I had Professional Developments all day yestdaerday and my first semester grades were due. But I did get the fuel pump installed. LOOK shiny!

I started to use my puller to separate my transferase from transmission but the puller was too small. @red66toy what did you use? I think I saw it but I can't remember what page it was on.

@Roastchestnuts , I put back in a couple of the rear cover bolts and used those to pull against to pop the transfercase off. Not much force is needed actually so there is no risk to the bolts being weak. I had to use a big puller since my 6" cheap amazon puller was not wide enough, but a wider version of it (still cheap) would have done the job fine.

Nothing to report on. I am planning on buying a dizzy, coil, thermostat housing and clutch kit from city racer tomorrow or when they open the online store back up. I got some new denso spark plugs in today. Wires, oem oil filter, oem oil pan gasket still coming. I can't remember If I mentioned it but I purchased an oem Toyota oil pan gasket because the aftermarket kit I got had a two piece gasket that seemed like it shrunk or somthing and the bolt holes didn't line up so I didn't trust it. I think I am going to buy a non gear reduction starter from fjparts as they had a pretty good deal on one. I know its probably not oem but it should work fine and the budget has to give somewhere a little.

once I get the engine buttoned up I will start cranking on the transmission.

Wow, 44 pages deep in a thread I haven’t seen before!

I will keep the hijack brief, my Pig is wearing the hood and front axle from the @FJBen Pig, aka “Pigtastic”.

Not trying to nitpick - do you have FPIG for the oil pan gasket? I used Toyota Seal Packing 103 FPIG -

I was able to rotate my engine and put it on the block and lay it down that way then again with the pan.

No worries! I actually have a tube left over from when I replaced the oil pan gasket on my 3fe powered fj80 about 4 years ago. But I did buy another tube because I used some of it for the push rod cover gasket and the timing gear cover. Its super nice turning the engine over on the stand just for getting the old gasket off. that was a huge pain last time I did one of these because it was still in the cruiser.

Haha. I have been cranking through pages... Trying to document everything I do. Its pretty fun. Its my first pretty much full take apart build. Luckly I can drive and repair slowly. Thats cool to know where the parts of that fj55 went. I hope parts of my 80 are on other 80s now. IDK what really ever became of it other thank insurance gave me more than I paid for it and I took it.

This is a random question for somebody. I really hate the early style wiper motors. (I am willing to live with them) can you put the later style singular motor from like a early 70s fj40 on an early windshield frame?

I ended up buying this starter from @cruiseroutfit non gear reduction one. 12V Starter Motor - Remanufactured Aftermarket - Fits F/2F (No Core Charge) (ELEC60042AFT) - https://cruiserteq.com/12v-starter-motor-remanufactured-aftermarket-fits-f-2f-no-core-charge-elec60042aft/ Seemed like a good price and good shipping. And I really trust these guys. I actually upgraded the shipping to ups because I trust them getting here more than usps to get to where I live. Long story short USPS does not get sent to our physical address here on Ocracoke island. It goes only to the post office and a P.O. box. Our post master is an ass and has sent stuff back if it does not have the p.o. box and the actual address. Stuff like credit cards and car parts I have ordered in the past. Most recently a Christmas gift for my wife. until this post master started we never had this issue.

What's up with these new Post Masters out here? Having the same problem, except we've been through 3 in as many years. Each one seems more intent on returning packages vs. holding them for the recipients. It's almost comical, but it's not.

it flipping drives me nuts. I really think the postmaster here is on a power trip. sometimes instead of sending it back she hand writes your p.o. box with a red sharpie and then sticks it in your box. I wish she was just doing that but sometimes she just sends it back. Its not like I want my packages to get sent back but some people only ship to a street address. Infact the Christmas gift thing shipped ups and then because a storm they dropped it off at the post office and then the post master returned it to sender.... WTF

whats crazy is that she knows what box to put them in! JUST DELIVER THE PACKAGE!

Same here. My heart sinks when I see a vendor has shipped via USPS. I watch helplessly as the tracking system shows that the package “is moving through the network” but will be arriving late.

I have another question for the Toyota engine gods. What is the best simple Intake for a Toyota 2f from 1978? I am wondering can I put a late f 155 intake on it? or should I just keep the one thats on it? seems like its the stock intake and exhaust manifold. Planning for a header if that helps.

Finally bought the dizzy from city racer @Racer65 along with thermostat housing kit and a coil. Its going to be like Christmas when it shows up. @OlYellr I am taking your advice and I am going to ditch the points and go pertronix. Ill post pictures when I get my parts in.

Pertronix was probably the single best upgrade I did. Even better than the JimC carb (with all due respect to Jim, he's a master).

It's because the post office is viewed as a sinecure job that simultaneously puts the recipient in a position of power. It's always been that way AFAIK.

Just double check the vacuum advance (suck on the hose) when done and make sure internals move - mine didn't the screw that came along was too long. a 1 banana job.
