@FJBen, did you put rtv on all gaskets or just exhaust.

I don’t use RTV, I use Aviation gasket maker on the paper gaskets. Thin film on both sides.
On the timing cover I actually didn’t use a paper gasket as it didn’t fit. Form a gasket and so far so good.

And on the side covers/push rods I use Toyota FIPG sealant. No leaks so far

Inspected 300k mile pistons. Found gouging I a couple. Particularly on ring gland area close to piston face.

@Cowboy45 got a birthday gift.

12HT Alfin pistons and full engine rebuild kit came with it. Engines Australia. Exchange rate is phenomenal at this time.

Now if we can find time away from life (boys are heavy into tennis tournaments each weekend) we will get at this. Chomping at the bit.

Anyone have a cam bearing removal SST we can borrow and return??

lol John. Ahem. Carpe Diem it is then. Onwards.

Nice birthday present! I know the business, volleyball, soccer, FFA nationals and soon to be basketball.

That’s one thing I had the machine shop do. Pull and replace the cam bearings. I couldn’t find a tool and didn’t feel like buying something i hopefully only have to use once.
I would definitely recommend an oem gasket, and a MLS if they have, which I think they do. I wasn’t real impressed with the engines Australia hesdgasket or intake gasket.

Thanks for the advice!! I do have a OEM engine gasket kit from @Onur.

Yup I heard about how the after market gaskets don´t hold up very long, but yeah we made sure to grab an OEM one for @Onur for the build. Thanks for the advice on the Cam bearings as well!!

On our way upto pick up a FJ45 in Tucson, we happen to pass through Amarillo and had @Yackster get the new Taio cam bearings knocked in. Zack has a great machine shop where rebuilds Diesel engines and race engines. While there he also honed the block and place the new Alfin Pistons on the conrods. On our way back we picked it up from @yacksters place. I highly recommend this place for engine work. First class. Look up him up if you need good work done.

@CaptClose and @POTATO LAUNCHER also helped out get the heavy stuff in and out of the truck. We had a great cruiser pickin trip in Tucson.

Over thanksgiving @Cowboy45 got the block back on the stand for re-assembly to begin. He also taped the rebuilt cylinder head to get it ready for paint. Taping the head for paint was death by a thousand razor cuts for @Cowboy45. The details take time. He is determined to get it done right. He is doing a great job. I forget at times he is only 14 years old!!!

checking in, lost this thread since it moved from the 40 section. Every time I open one of your @ceylonfj40nut or @CenTXFJ60 threads there's a new cruiser in each of your shops
Looks like it's going to be a nice engine. A clean machine shop with fast turnaround time that also know what they're doing is a rarity. It's the main reason I avoid recommending engine rebuilds these days.
Make sure to take care to really blow out oil passages in the block and head with good pressurized air and cleaner before assembly. @Cowboy45

Also not sure if i mentioned already or not but Duplilcolor "Cast Aluminum" engine enamel works really well for a factory fresh look for dirty aluminum parts like timing covers, water pumps, transfer case, halves, etc. if you don't have access to a good gel blaster.

Duplicolor DE1650

@cruisermatt, unlike @CenTXFJ60, I am done. No more cruisers.

Focus is to get them on the road. Key word is FOCUS. Thanks for the tip on DE1650. I think I saw that on your splitcase rebuild!!! I take it DE1650 holds well in high heat?

Great tip on blowing out the oil galley lines!!!

@Yackster turned engine machining and all in a day or less. Really awesome. @Cowboy45 and @SipLife both mentioned working under @Yackster for a couple of weeks in the summer.

Seems to be. I painted my whole LS motor with it too.
