Still available! This is what people use for the fuel grommet in the floor (either modify the grommet or cut the hole to the same size as the firewall grommet).

No. The small grommet where the heater pull cable goes through the firewall.

Finally got my air cleaner (the correct one) back from powdercoating and assembled.

She's on. Everything PC'd and cad plated. Also added the hard to find rubber intake hose from CityRacer.

Bad news: added coolant this morning, and found that my rear heater core has a leak. It did not have a leak before, so the only thing I can figure is that sandblasting it may have eaten through a weakened area. Bummer.

Now I need to find a new core. Anyone have a core they would like to sell?

That was an expensive battery. Absorbed Glass Mat at around 275 bucks new.

The factory battery was a group 27

Your tray (if it is correct) should be just over 12 inches long and a touch under 7 inches wide.

This suggests that your current battery is a bit too wide for the tray and tie bar, OK for length and perhaps a bit short for the tie bar to clamp it down properly.

In view of your theme I suggest using a Toyota Truestart OEM replacement battery. The correct part number is 00544-27060-675. Most dealers will not have one on the shelf as group 27s are not used in any current applications, unlike the group 27F which is otherwise identical but with reversed posts. However Interstate is the vendor and a dealer can get one in a couple days at most. The current published list price is $123.52, you may be able to do better than that if you have a good relationship with your local dealer.

Shipping a wet lead-acid battery from a place with "the best prices" is not practical due the the hazardous nature of the beast.

@MScruiser how good is your alignment where air cleaner housing meets top of carb? Mine is a 10/78 manu date and there is a tilt instead of it seating nice and flat all the way around. I have heard this is common with '78's especially those that were late in the year. Mark @65swb45 has seen this as well, and if so have a good fix without modifying the air cleaner housing? Super nice build btw

It appears to be perfectly aligned. That being said, I am using an aftermarket carb.

There are two brackets on the housing that are adjustable. I kept mine loose until the housing was mounted to the top of the carb, then torqued them down.

Did a leakdown test, and found 2 hairline cracks. Looks like it was damaged in the return trip from the platers. Luckily, I remembered I had some silver solder and some liquid flux. I tried repairing them, and it looks like it worked. Woohoo!

Interstate makes Toyota's replacement batteries. Toyota-branded Interstates look different and have different ratings than regular Interstate batteries. They are only available through Toyota dealers.
