Got this back from West Texas Off Road......nice and refreshed 80 box with the 105 sector shaft upgrade. Requires a 105 pitman arm too. Expensive setup but not nearly as expensive as a new 80 box.

And this is the reason we needed a new sector shaft on this box.....twisted splines and the whole shaft is bent. Yikes.

What are they charging for a rebuild these days? How fast did they turn it around?

My Troopy’s box is leaking and it’s progressing...

FYI, I just help rebuild 3 boxes in past months, and with the Gates kit ($40) and a few hours, it really is pretty easy. There is a great thread on how to do it...

I’ve rebuilt a 40-series power steering box twice... my own. Used the Toyota OEM kit. But it still leaks a little. My understanding is they need more than just the rebuild kit. They need to be sleeved and remachined to truly hold up again. I thought that was in West Texas’s rapport. Are they just replacing the seals and repainting it? I can do that...

I thought it was a little more than seals and paint. I think the one we just had done was $286 shipped. Of course I needed to supply the new sector shaft so it ended up being kind of pricey.

The problem is the turnaround.....5-6 weeks I think. Took a long time. We just sent them another 80 box today to swap into one of the other trucks when it gets back.

Got a few things knocked out today......and had a nice visit from @WarDamnEagle.....glad I could show you around...always fun to talk Toyotas.

So these trucks only have turn signals up front in the marker portion of the headlight. I wanted turn AND parking...so I ended up buying a 3 wire bulb socket from some kind of Lexus and wiring it up to do both duties. My #1 truck was done this way and it I like it. We'll also have some lights in the front bumper too as the bullbar obscures the corner light a tad. ARB has some retrofittable LED amber turns with white DRLs....that might be the perfect setup...more light for the front of the truck.

On the rear of the truck...some of this stuff is going in. We'll replace all the bushings in the truck with new rubber eventually...starting with the rear arms.

This will get installed too...the @Delta VS panhard lift bracket. Slick piece.

I spent my morning struggling with why Android Auto wouldn't work on the Pioneer headunit I purchased a while back. Not sure where this even came from but it's not a US unit. Has the 200mm wide screen...so a bit bigger than a double DIN unit. Fits the 79 dash perfect. Had to be a little particular with these....some of them are for RHD cars....volume control is on the right side of the unit. Bit of a stretch for a LHD car. Not with this one though....all works.

Pioneer AVH-ZL5150BT is the unit....it does a TON of stuff.

Figured out the Android Auto issue....kind of. It miraculously started working after I plugged it in to my other truck.

We'll add a USB port to a blank plug on the dash so I can plug in to that to ge

Ended up running the OME C2419 springs in the front. I needed a starting point and figured these would be good. 4" of lift with enough spring to handle the weight of the 1HZ and all the other stuff. Tall springs for sure. Will sort shocks out once we can take some measurements....not sure I want to run the Old Man Emu on this truck.

I use those to hold up the Cummins 6BT. I ate through the OME shocks pretty quick. I have Bilstein 7100s on the 80 now.
I still need to decide what to run on the 75 truck.

Thanks so much for the hospitality yesterday. You have an amazing shop and exceptional attention to detail. It showed in everything I looked at yesterday. 👍

What do you run in the back of the 80 with the 419s up front?

I have no idea where my starting point will be on the rear of this truck with the camper on it. I have OME 2.5" springs in the rear of the #1 with airbags and 30mm spacers. Could use more lift back there I think.

On the 80 I have 4" Slee mediums and on the 75 I have the 863J springs. I still don't have the bed on so hoping for the best.

That picture gave me goose bumps, so close to my son's project....

We were able to get the windshield strip done yesterday....this will cover up the Rav4 dash since it's taller than the old steel dash and you can see it from the exterior of the truck. We used vinyl....tried using tint but the vinyl worked better. Vinyl on the INSIDE of the glass. Got the wipers painted and installed too.

Vinyl guy is going to come back when the vinyl is dry(he applied it wet) and trim it up a bit.

While we were finishing up the rear upper and lower control arm bushings, we installed the Whilteline BTR46X rear sway bar. Pretty stout bar.

Buttoned up our steering setup....it had been out for a while since the box was being rebuilt. In and done.
