I moved the 68 FST over to my parents garage so I could start this.........................my 40 to fake 45 build. I have been accumulating parts over the years and finally have the right combo to get started. I got a couple of 40s that were basically cut in half already. The 1971, gray, is mostly complete with a ton of new pieces. The other pile is an early 60's 40 in rough shape. The 71 will be the basis for the build.
Here we go.........

sweet, I'm in the beginning phases of a fake FJ45 lwb project for myself. Subscribed :)

The loose plan is the extend the frame to match the factory LWB pickup at 116''. Build a 45 cab with top that will be about 4ish inches longer than stock. Then build a SWB style bed that fits the rest.
I am building this for my own fun and games. Mostly to use for a day trip wheeler, cause I like hauling rocks, wood, desert treasures home and I just cant put that crap in the back of the LX470....lol.
Drive train is not yet decided. My start with junk I have or end up with a Chevy 5.3 to Cruiser 5 speed and so on. It will have 40 axles and 33's to start. Upgrades will happen as time, money, and necessity dictate.

Torn the 71 apart. The PO body work and sheet metal work is not too good but it's mostly solid. The floor is basically flat without any oem style ribs. I am not planning to change all that. Going forward I will try and make stuff look as factory as I can........

Are you going to stay with the 40 springs or go with some heavier 45’s?
