Probably missed it... is there some time frame or schedule roughed out yet?

Here is the start of my potential "Long Island Tour" contribution:

Hate to be the monkey with a wrench, but here goes. There is no such thing as "first annual". The correct term is inaugural. I look forward to this event, should be a great way to get to know a lot of fellow cruiser heads, see the country from a lot of different perspectives and have a reason to tweak the cruisers for a drive. Also good incentive for those whom have rigs in the garage to get the work done on time.

Which design?

@hecrod can you please send me a high resolution photo of your cruiser taken at an angle from the passenger side? I think it would be appropriate to use your cruiser in the photo vs mine since you inspired this whole thing. :) Plus yours has the iconic white top on it. Try to get as little in the background as possible. I would like to put in place of mine in this design:

Oh man you just made a ton of work for me - why didn't you speak up sooner?

Kidding, thanks for the input I can change very easily. These are low res mockups.

I am in. My 68 is slow, so dont want to travel very far, but I could relay from Potato Launcher to cbmontgo and/or 1911. I am currently in Chillicothe, TX which is halfway between Amarillo and DFW area

i'm picturing a 1970s vintage hard attache case....complete with spy vs spy hand cuffs on the handle.
contained inside is a stash of the approved event sticker(s?)...this is how you pick up your sticker, a poorly xeroxed copy of travel tips IE types of places to stop for photos, possibly the aforementioned dash gopro, and souvenirs of the places the case has been....anything from a soda cup advertising the go to local burger joint or the local drive in, the local tourist trap or a receipt of a ferry or bridge tunnel whatever the current courier can dream of. and a log book, upon meeting with the new agent, the current agent signs off and the new signs on...perhaps in the middle is an entry including dates and mileage.

at some point perhaps an east case gets handed off for a west case?? perhaps the west doesn't do a case, maybe they do something different?
I'm thinking that the first move is going to be south, down the east coast. Which to me means @hecrod starts the move, symbolically handing over the epic journey.

It was Pismo Jim who famously said "If it weren't for trip deadlines, shop lights and pizza, our cruisers would never get done."

My daughter suggested a GoPro be part of the "baton" package. It would be SUPER cool if a time lapse of this whole thing were to be made - windshield camera mount all the way.

And maybe with some specific instructions for what gets shot ("Welcome to..." state signs, famous landmarks etc....)

I like it!

I will donate a GoPro and needed accessories to the cause!

As far as logistics go, I think something that hasn't been talked about is lodging/camping. Say a group starts out in the morning in LA and drives 5 hours to Vegas. The Vegas group would have the option of starting the next morning, or possibly starting the next leg that afternoon. But if there's not enough time to make it all the way to the next hand off point, the 'group' would be staying together.

In many places this won't be an issue, but it will definitely take some planning to figure out a good time of the day the hand off should occur to make it easier on the next group. Especially out west where towns are fewer and farther between!

As great as it would be to have every hand off planned out, we all know traffic, mechanical, and weather delays will hinder this, so there needs to be built in buffers along the route. Many people will have to ask for time off work in advance to participate, so if the baton is a day or two late, it could potentially make a lot of people miss out. If the delays are early in the trip, it will have a ripple effect because it will be hard to 'make up' time with a pack of 40's on the highway.

How about a guest book like one at a wedding or funeral ... Sign it ... Write a lil about how great or crappy it is ... Date and distance traveled

Pass it off to the next guy

Or maybe a drivers log ... The ones that truckers are required to carry

This could also be sent overseas :)

One of our club members mentioned our group from TN doing our leg on the TAT trail, running east to west. Might be cool if others joined that style of trekking across country!

I will sign on for Charleston, SC to..... Run. Put me down for 200 miles - that could get me from Charleston SC to Aiken / August, GA - near @GA Architect, or toward the Upsate of S Carolina and connect to the Tennessee group. Additionally, I could connect to the Charlotte, NC area and to Savannah GA - if necessary.

I can't go east - no snorkel. I will encourage @CharlestonG8R @dbenke @scott johnson @whitenh @77wagon @Trollhole or others to be involved in a caravan of sorts.... Some sorts.

I'm figuring I (we) would be a weekend participant - not necessarily a 'starting' point, or ending point, just segment participant.

Right on Erik. I would definitely like to a part of it. I be been watching the thread, just haven't chimed in yet. As long as I can break away from work, I'll be there.

I was thinking more about potential New Mexico legs, to include sections of the old, original Route 66. Little known to most, politics played a large part of the significant, major realignment of Route 66 in New Mexico: Santa Fe- Pre 1938 Alignment of New Mexico Route 66

To get from West Texas to Arizona, with a potential northerly leg into Southern Colorado (from Romero on I-25 south of Las Vegas, New Mexico), it could make sense to go through Santa Rosa on I-40 (former Route 66), through Romero, then up over Glorita Pass on I-25, through Santa Fe, then down the original La Bajada Hill (still unpaved) into the Albuquerque area. I'd be willing to change my route to include the section from Bernalillo, New Mexico to Santa Fe/Glorieta Pass/Romero.

Rt 66 runs through Amarillo and the mid continental point is in Adrian TX just west of here. Some of the original route is still there west of here. Most of it is access road type stuff. Mist of the larger towns on I40 like Tucumcari and Santa Rosa have historic districts that pay homage to the mother road. I can go that way or north northwest from my area. Isn't there some active 40 members in the SantaFe area?

If you need high end graphics done for the bumper sticker or a badge let me know I do photography and graphic design. Get me basic information for what you want on it and I can compile it.

I am able to meet you anywhere along the HWY 287 corridor. We can fine tune as a time line is established.

Oh man nice I'm just a photoshop hack. See my designs above. Thinking the one with the U.S. map but instead with @hecrod's cruiser in lieu of mine.

I'm in northwest Ohio and willing to go 200+ miles any direction so count me in.
