I actually went back to a single solenoid a few years ago after adding a second start battery in parallel. I was able to simplify my wiring setup significantly.
After five years, how has the two solenoid setup on the starting system performed?

Copy that. Is your starting system still isolated? I deleted my sunroof and have plans to move my starting circuit to the sunroof area. The plan is to have a push button starting circuit much like in a race car (street outlaws style). What factors made you use the ford solenoid over stock dodge electronics (on the starting system)?

I have my grid heaters on dodge solenoids being triggered by an 80 series rear defrost switch that I modified to be a momentary switch. The ingnition circuit is being triggered by the factory 80 ignition wiring...so no, not isolated. I don't think there was any science behind the ford solenoid choice, other that it works and they are readily available.

Nothing new lately, I have been busy with the turbo LX and planning a home build. Now that the weather has warmed up, I will have more desire to get out into the garage and get cracking on it once again.

I am pulling the body off my '96 this weekend(or next), and have been working with a few folks to run down the last of my parts. The 12 valve is built and will be married to the fully rebuilt NV4500 soon.

Nothing new on this build, been busy building a new home…but I do need to get cracking on it as I want it all back together before the new home is finished. There will be a bunch of new cool conversion parts going on when this goes back together again though. The motor is getting a few upgrades too…better fueling, more turbo, better rods and valve springs.

just what this truck needs.....more power. LOL
 

Here is a link to the info about the coating that Tenacity is using. I wanted one that was UV stable, very tough but remains flexible. I also wanted a professional looking job as I was never happy with the elcheapo Monstaliner job that I did myself. It’s definitely a lot of work if you want a full color change like I have done, which adds to the cost, but it’s still below a comparable color change in regular paint.

I can't find any info on their new site. Does anyone know of competitors using a similar mixture? This is the first liner job I could live with.
 
So I have been pretty quiet here for sometime now, but it’s now officially time to bring this thread back to life with Cummins swap 2.0

I decided about a year ago to not put the 6BT back in this 80, but rather to get my hands on a Commonrail 5.9 Cummins and figure out how to make that fit. During our October Idaho trip last year @swankstar decided to also do a Commonrail swap after killing his 4BT on the trail.

Fast forward to this week, Dave and I headed out to Lakewood, CO after Cruise Moab to go pickup our pair of built Commonrail motors from the machine shop that has been putting them together for us.

A bunch of the conversion parts have already been modeled out, but a few more still need to get finalized. Goal is to have this up and running this Summer.

Full electronic injection on the commonrail right? Has to be. Will be interesting to see how you set up the wiring.

Yes full computer control on the common rail. We have standalone harnesses that we will be using.

Did you buy the standalone harness or make it? I'd love a link, want to stick one of these in my F550 one day (lol)

You can get a stand alone from painless, but only for the early commonrail (03-04.5). We are building 06 motors, and will be modifying those painless harnesses to work with the 06 ecu’s. We wanted the late model motors so we can use EFI live to tune them.

Yeah it’s going to get exciting for sure. The old Ford wheelbarrow did its job and hauled those motors home.
 
Great choice on the commonrail! What made you choose the 5.9 over a 6.7?
The late model 5.9 commonrail is arguably the best motor Cummins has made…plus the block being the same size as the rest of the 5.9’s helps with fitment and packaging into an 80 series engine bay.

The 6.7 block is just .5" taller. I've installed a 6.7 commonrail in an 80. 2nd gen manifold swapped it and with a billet valve cover the fit was great.

5.9 cr is fantastic. I just see an overabundance of 6.7's on the market compared to 5.9 cr's. Probably has something to do with the 5.9 cr's limited run compared to the 17 years and counting of the 6.7.
