I already have fairly respectable power numbers, about 400-450 and 800-850 ft/lbs. That said, while I am in there replacing the rings I might do a few more mods. Considering a new cam to help her breath. Also have a larger turbo sitting in a box, a new set of delivery valves and some stronger push rods.I totally understand. Do you have it planned out? Basic rebuild or going for bigger power. I am looking for the 300hp 700ftlb range.
Very nice! How much power are you comfortable putting through the 80 Series drive line? I have no doubt a turned up 6BT will make enough power to find any weak link in the driveline.I already have fairly respectable power numbers, about 400-450 and 800-850 ft/lbs. I am sure that if I drove it like a teenager I could break axles, hub studs etc pretty easily, but I try not to goose the throttle when in the rocks. The only thing I have snapped so far was the yoke on a rear drive shaft.Very nice! How much power are you comfortable putting through the 80 Series drive line? Your self control is impressive!I am sure that if I drove it like a teenager I could break axles, hub studs etc pretty easily, but I try not to goose the throttle when in the rocks. The only thing I have snapped so far was the yoke on a rear drive shaft.
I dig it too! That hood is BOMB!!! And the Abyss grey is a sweet color with black accents!!!!!!
This is looking really good! I've been having some heat management issues and actually melted part of my hood liner right above the turbo, so I've been thinking about something like the approach you and Boxrocket have taken here. So it looks to me like you're not using any type of hood liner since you're trying to maximize airflow / heat dissipation. What's the effect on in-cabin noise from the motor? Would you share the monster hood scoop product link? All the doors and hood are mounted back on in prep for the exterior spray...getting close.
I really liked the hood louvers I added to my Turbo LX, so I got another pair but made out of steel that have been added to this hood along with a big honking hood scoop that @Box Rocket put me onto out of Oz. Took a while to clear customs, but I am pretty thrilled with how it’s coming together.

Sent you a PM. I haven’t had a hood liner since I originally did the swap back in 2015 so I don’t have a great comparison to make. As you know, you certainly are aware you a more driving a Cummins, but it’s never been obnoxiously loud. I figured it would be good to keep the engine bay temps as cool as possible...and I like the aesthetics of the scoop and vents. This is looking really good! Keep it up man, always fun to see how these Cummins trucks evolve.
Have you been having overheating problems?Sent you a PM. I haven’t had a hood liner since I originally did the swap back in 2015 so I don’t have a great comparison to make. No I haven’t had any problems.Have you been having overheating problems?
A troopy on an extended 80 chassis is the other option that would be awesome. Not sure when I’ll get stuck into that, won’t be for a while though....house build takes priority, just couldn’t pass up the screaming deal on this motor.Ah man! that common rail is gonna be sweet. You're gonna beat to the 70 series on an 80 chassis rig. I want a troopy body on 80 chassis.
In other news...this got delivered this morning. 5.9 common rail. Not sure what I will put it in just yet...but an 80/79 hybrid is at the top of my list right now.

After five years, how has the two solenoid setup on the starting system performed?I picked up and wired in a 2nd Ford solenoid and the truck is starting up fine now...fingers crossed it stays that way. The primary issue is that the Toyota harness is providing such low voltage 9.5v that it doesn't take much current draw to overwhelm it.
I have the Toyota start wire activating the 1st Ford solenoid, which then powers up the starter and a jumper wire to activate the 2nd ford solenoid. The 2nd solenoid, then powers up the trigger wire on the fuel shutoff pull circuit.
