I'll bet the most useful arrangement would be for the 3 "variable" spots (right of the heater controls, below the heater controls and the lower right quadrant) to be open rectangles. Then you could sell screw on filler options for those spots. The 2 on the right could be the same size so you would only need 2 different sized filler sizes...

You might even be able to make them all the same size...

Not exactly like this but you get the idea... then you make a variety of fillers to go in those holes...

I thought of that, but seems the shifter would get really close to whatever you had plugged in to that old location. Which is why I moved them over to the right side.

Any thoughts?

I have my FTM-350 head unit installed over the ashtray hole, and it protrudes a few inches. The only time I have interference issues is when I'm in 5th gear on the H55F. When I installed it there, I had the 4 speed, and there was no interference at all. Considering that switches, pockets, etc are flush mount and don't protrude as much as my head unit, I would expect you'd have no issues regardless of transmission that the end user has in the rig.

That said, I would consider a plate without the lower left hole so I could cut the size hole I need for a flush mount 3 receptacle 12V strip I picked up a while back.

Is your intent to offer a number of available templates or make a one and only? I really like what you have going here.

What about replacing the cig lighter hole for 12v hole? Would that make a difference to you?

Wouldn't that just be the same thing, or are you wanting to use one of the auto part store ones that comes with a cap?

To keep the stock cig unit would require and extra piece behind the panel. The stock cig unit has metal bezel that is conical and angles downward (i believe), but it's not centered. On the back side of the OEM surround it is elongated into the dash so the cig lighter tightens up against that molded plastic piece. It can be done, but requires more time.

One way around it is just cut out the spot for just actual cig liter with the green ring, no chrome bezel. Going this way It's about a 1" diameter hole with small cut out on the bottom. You would lose the lighted green circle effect or you can drill a hole on top of that and fab up the light how you want it.

Or get rid of the stock lighter dimension and make accommodations for something like this, minus the bracket, these are threaded all the way so on the backside it tightens up against the panel.

And now I have the purdiest panel I ever did see in my new clean, bone stock (except for a sunroof) 62, so you're no help...

You sir, can make some serious beer money, if you play your cards right. I'd talk to Kevin @ Wagon Gear... or amaurer, or this guy: https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-...nstrument-panel-those-aftermarket-gauges.html.

Also, check this one-off unit (see post #3): BUT BEFORE YOU CLICK...be forewarned, cruiser porn ahead...SFW. https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/180085-new-aluminum-dash.html

What about this?

Oh yes, a couple different versions, OEM stock (minus the cig lighter replace with 12v plug), a heater control cut out only, and it's trying to determine what the next most popular version is and maybe an additional version. Custom requests are not out of question, but just not there yet.

I'm interested in a stock design one. Good work!

IM totally interested in your idea of replacing the stock sig lighter. Put me down for one of these.

Stock with the 12V plug would work for me.

Have you settled on a material for these yet?

It's been a slow process and trying to get a fab shop to take this on has been arm twisting. The recent super cold weather also put behind the shop i was working with.

I contacted them again last week, and we finalized a prototype, but it is going to be missing some counter boring (on the switch holes), mainly because the machinist are backed up and I didn't want to continue to wait. While it's more for looks, I wanted to test to see if the stock oem switches would clip into just 1/8 material, since I would counter bore half way through the original 1/4 sheet.

They said they would have one cut and shipped out to me by the end of the week.

So lets keep out fingers crossed and aluminum is the current material.

Dash prototype here!

It finally came! Here is cell phone shot of it. Won't know the fitment until late tonight!

Thanks for you're patience guys!
