Looking for a cheap set 16" steel rim solution that can be found in the junk yard that will work with my FJ55. Do not have to be steel rims. What Toyota Truck(s) am I looking for. People talk about "70s" but I only see a 5 bolt pattern. I was hoping my 2003 Tundra spare set of wheels would fit my 75 Pig so I could use my recently replaced 16" BFG K02s from my Tundra (just got the K03s). Tundra rims do not fit over the steering mechanism. Bummer. See pics. I have got the OEM 15" rims but I need to clean them up and paint them. This is a temporary solution.

Must be hopeless as I used the word "CHEAP" for 16" rims. What are alternatives? Will my old Tundra 265/70 R16 K02s work on my FJ55 if I can find 16" rims.

Any IFS rim is going to suffer massive offset problems and hit the steering gear on an FJ40/55. The 265 tires should fit fine if you can find any rims that fit. You might look for 1970s/80s GM 4WD pickup (solid front axle) rims in either 15 or 16". I'd wager that nothing you can find in a modern junkyard is going to work.

This! My old timey retired neighbor mechanic said almost the exact thing to his 40 friend. Verbatim, in fact, ha. But added "the hot weather has passed, and you may find what you're looking for and make it worth your $1 gate fee....but I doubt it."

The GM rims center hole will probably be too small to fit over the Toyota hub. Folks in the past have had to open them up.

I’d run 4 spare steel wheels off a tundra or 4runner. If memory serves me right, they have 4.5” backspacing. They are tight for IFS, and may require 1” wheel spacers to clear the steering.

How about FZJ80 16" wheels? They should fit and look great.

Not without a spacer on the front axle.

4Runner 16" rims fit and use to be able to find them cheap. 1" spacer needed for the front axle. Seems nothing is as cheap as it to to be. In the past could pick up a set of four for $100. These are the rarer type. More common were cheaper.

Wow, what a "rabbit hole" subject. Things have gotten much more expensive. I thought it would be easy. Junk yards on the GM products say the rims are too old and not available. You have to find a used truck to get the rims. LOL. Thank you all for the information. I continue to learn from you all. Good stuff!

I like the 4 Runner and FZJ80 ideas but unable to locate a set of 4 at the junkyards in my area. Also, would have to purchase the 1" spacers. To use them for the fronts to get around the tie rods. My Tundra rims might work if I used 1" spacers. That might be the cheapest way to go along with longer studs for the front.

This may be the fix. Called Les Schwab (west cost tire store) and they recommended a 16" Allied 80 white spoke steel rim. The cheapest they have $102 each. These are 16 x 7 then have to spend $120 to mount the old K02s. The OEM have a 3.5" offset if i measured it correctly (block of wood and tape measure to hub). Will have to dry fit the white spoke rim for clearance/fit or wait for some to show up on marketplace or craigslist.

Sandblasting and powder coating my OEM 15" rims ranges in price from $95/rim to $145/rim at local shops. I have nine (9) rims to do - 4 for 1975 FJ55 and 5 for 1972 FJ40.. Maybe I am just being too cheap or old and/or BOTH but this seems expensive.

Generally 1" spacers do not require replacing your studs with longer ones. Spacers have their own studs and lug nuts. Lug nuts are used on the vehicle studs and then use the correct lug nuts for the wheels your on the spacer.

Thanks Silver Star for the clarification. Will a 1" spacer cause any adverse affects on a non modified FJ55? I noticed the Tundra Rims look a "tad" close to the fender so suspect I would need 1" spacers there also. Does anybody have a locations to purchases new or used spacers with a centralizer (if I have the terminology correct.). Thanks again for the information.

You will be money ahead if you clean up your stock 15” wheels and get some Kanati or Kenda tires. Sell your 16” tires on Marketplace. The money you will spend on the cheapest steel wheels still isn’t worth the cost to save those 16” tires. Also, load range E tires will be miserable.
