Probably sat tail low for an extended period of time. It really is strange how these old trucks weather the years. Some better than others. I believe It really depends on how many different owners there has been. Fewer owners usually equals less damage or things that have been changed. Of course …….Left Coast vs Right Coast 😀 unfortunately does play a role….
I know with mine and other project trucks I have had in the past, my biggest annoyance is holes drilled in body panels for off road lights and crap. fewer owners and less sitting time I think helps with rust for sure.

I’ve been up to my elbows in finishing up a 200 project and did not get started on this one until well after lunch.

This is after washing

Now to add some wax and move on

Wow Nolan, spectacular…..it’s amazing what a little know how and elbow grease will do for one of these treasures. Well done, now back to work.😀

Glad you saved this one. Really really solid.

I just scrubbed the interior. The only rust in here other than surface is the fenders where mud stayed wet behind those fender supports. It’s amazingly not through rust just bubbled up. I’m going to murder it with fluid film on both sides and a responsible owner like Mike will keep those pockets clean and greased up moving forward.

I put a thick coat of FF on the surface rust. It will soak in like the bed on their 45 did while it’s here under the knife.

No rust at all on the hard top corners which is amazing. Bottoms of all the doors front and back are 100% solid too

Really took a massive layer of s*** off. You can see the off white now. Other than the eye hook and what looks like a .22 hole in the visor it’s thin in gel coat in places but solid

Took a quick lunch and decided I’ve cleaned enough. Time to tear s*** apart.

Yanked out the exhaust (side pipe) and driveshafts (8mm junk)

Got all of the bolts out of the transmission hump except one.
IMG_4192.webp

Broke out the cut off wheel and took care of the bolt.

Started looking at the linkage to remove and I smelled paper burning.

Smoke was coming out of the heater???

Turns out there was a rat nest in the freaking heater and sparks from the grinder caught it on fire!

I hit it with my air chuck and sparks started flying so I had to hit it with water.

IMG_4191.webp

I pulled it out quickly and there was a ton of paper still packed into it.

Glad I did not take a break after that cut or I would have been in deep poo

Once I got the old stuff out of the way I rolled it back out and blasted it

That blue really does pop! I've got a patina'd white bezel from my 71 I'd be willing to part with if you're interested, though it might be a bit too patina'd to look right.
Yea. Shoot me a pic please

If this one doesn't work out I have a couple of possibilities.
Please do. His was pretty much all patina. Looking for a blend like this one

Or this

Got a bezel squared away. Just need to send this one for a swap.

Today sucked. No way around it sucking since it must happen if one plans on doing proper 4 wheel disc brakes on a Ball and Claw front/10 spline rear truck.
