Going ok so far. The mix screw does cut the engine off when I turn it close to all the way in. So now the idle port is working.
vac at 15 + which isnt great but seems to idle well. remembering I purchased a new mix screw only to find it 4mm shorter so not sure if there are enough threads to make it work. I was only 3 turns out from the bottom after finding max idle.

Not satisfied with that vac reading so I did some additional digging on mud. Now that the manifold leak is solved, there may be another small leak at either the booster or maybe even the throttle shaft bushings. I found a thread where someone did a DIY throttle bushing replacement. Fingers crossed its an easier fix than that. Its amazing the number of ppl here on MUD that have groveled through this same issue over the years.. Sure helps us newbies :)

Identified the leak which seems to be near the insulator, all the other hoses including the one for the brake booster are fine and no leaks present.

Just read a thread and saw that although there are a few a gaskets on the insulator they added them. would it be not advised to use the 2 gaskets that SOR sells to help with this leak?

I've already lightly sanded the surfaces of the insulator.

No, I'm sorry, I would not advise anyone to order from SOR unless they had exhausted all other possibilities.
Also:
1) I don't use those base gaskets.
B) If I had to put a gasket there I'd make my own out of very good gasket material.
III) Those gaskets come in a carb rebuild kit. I would advise everybody with a carb to keep one or two carb rebuild kits on hand.

Decent advise. So, I took the air cleaner off and thought I would see if I could get a bit more granular in where the vac leak is coming from and it looks to me, the leak is not in fact the insulator but the back of the throttle linkage shaft is where the leak is and I've read that there are not bearings or sleeves avail to correct this or is there? Thoughts?

Thoughts?
Yes, there's that. I have heard of people getting new bushings installed there. It sounds hard. It can't leak much air, and it's up sorta fairly high on the carb and can be adjusted for. I think I wouldn't worry too much about that now.

It is a significant enough leak to prevent it from idling properly as the vac is just low enough that it sometimes dies when coming to s stop.
I suppose I could advance timing or increase idle speed a tad but I was hoping to get to the bottom of this prob.
