1. PUT DOWN THE RATTLE CAN!!!

2. Look ma, no glass!
hahaha. I think I have to keep the face on there for sure. But, the Dirtbag truck definitely deserves a windshield.

@daner that would be cool if you could try to strip a little paint to see if you can get it to show threw!
I'm open towards ideas to on how to bring it back. It is the original paint- my guess is that it had painted letters that were removed, leaving a ghost of the letters.Do you think a little mineral spirits would bring it out?

Something might, but hard to say what. I bought a mustard 1978 FJ40 back in 91 or so that was a perfect example of a patina rig I was more than happy to just prevent additional decay on during my stewardship.

A P.O. had some kind of wild life business stenciled on the doors. As Inrecall they sprayed some red primer over the whole area before they sold it. The P.O. to me had cleaned it with something that took off the letters builder some of the primer.

I very vaguely think that @DaveWest5150 ended up with those doors.

Take a paint scraper and chip the bubbles out to where the paint is solid.

Rust Convert the metal.

Once the converter sets up rub some boiled linseed oil on the exposed rust.

On the underside soak it with Fluid Film.

Drive it.

The world has plenty of perfectly painted cars. Yours tells a story. Let it.

Report to the Patina thread.

LOL Wngrog, I was thinking of YOU and OregonFJ (before he ruined his patina :)) when I was typing my post. "Report to the Patina thread" ---that is funny

Meant to post it here— great post by wngrog in another forum— classic!

Man, you'd think I stole some baby's candy, the way I get pilloried for trying to save an abused FJ40. ;) :steer:

Just because mine no longer has 4 different overlapping paint colors on it, I'm the bad guy. Sigh....

More current photo rocking OEM wheels and KO2’s, minus the DIY roll cage.
