Call me a killjoy... I couldn't help myself.
But it's starting its second half century, and I've already got some dirt in the wheel wells!

A long-term experiment.
How long can a car last
Hanns – Lüdecke Rodewald, a Professor for automotive engineering at the Engineering University in Berlin,

I met him and his Opel twice first about 30 years ago & the last time 8 years ago. Talked with him great guy.
The Opel has never seen a garage always parked outside in rain in snow during sun & moon shine.
No rust prevetion.
The Caravan isn`t a Garage Queen not pimped and pampered :)... just a car.
Still on the road 2017

Um... What's the next step passed "patina" called?

Well.... don’t stand there taking pictures... take it home!!! Lol
My father and I have been trying for at least 15 years. It belongs to my uncle. He has another 45lv, which is missing the entire front, sitting right next to it. The one in the photo is a 1964 and it's pretty complete. Everything under the hood has remained original: engine, single barrel carb, dizzy, etc. It has all the knobs on the dash and has the original colum shift. It looks in way worse condition than what it is. The body is solid and only has a few rust holes on the floor from what I was able to notice. Unknown if the engine turns over.

That is so irritating. People that won’t let others take a project they clearly will never take on just because they thing they will somehow change and start finishing/doing things ....../

Tools of the trade.

So many people worry about their skill level bringing these old heaps back to life.

Remember, it usually took 20-30 years of abuse to get them in this condition so being an enthusiast that has a little sense can make the winds of time slow down very fast without being a skilled welder or body man.

Stop the rust.

Fill the holes that fill up with mud and water.

Use filler and body tape to finish it.

Done.

Save your body and paint money for a good set of brakes or a new carburetor.

Can you use metal filler over Rustoleum restorer? Already painted a few pitted spots in floorboards.

I started removing the Bedliner yesterday and was planning on painting it when I got it all off. I am kind of leaning toward lightly sanding some spots to blend some of the colors better and to make the surface a little smoother. Then just seal it with clear coat. I like the way the paint looks now a lot better than the black bed liner all over
