When I put the Warthog together with the donor hood I simply wiped some boiled linseed oil on the exposed rust and rolled out.

I’ve got some downtime doing suspension work so I decided to do the full CLR/BLO treatment on the hood today.

I rattlecaned the fenders so I needed to put a little shine on the hood to match

You can see what before looks like above

Turned out great.

@wngrog I commented on your IG post about this. Do you apply the CLR scrub and BLO to only the areas of surface rust? In other words, did you CLR scrub and BLO the entire hood or just the large surface rust areas and small chips? I'm looking at a vehicle with surface rust in some areas, especially the hood, but ok original paint in other areas. Would you CLR scrub and BLO ONLY the surface rust areas, and then compound, polish, and wax the areas of original paint? I would be hesitant to scrub decent paint with a scotchbrite... If you have a thread explaining this process in detail somewhere feel free to link it. I read about CLR & BLO on some hot rod forums and some people swore it was the worst thing you could do for a car, others loved it. Some of those cars had almost no original paint though.

Mine when I bought it 15+ years ago. Been in garages ever since. Still looks the same.

On the Pig hood with lots of solid paint I had swirls where I scrubbed the buildup off but I was able to polish them out with my orbital.

If the truck has exposed rusted metal the BLO does great. Also on my 45 and 40 the paint is so rough it does great with BLO. “Soaks” it in.

I’d try your truck with a buffer and rubbing compound but keep the paste off the exposed rust. It’s hell to remove and it makes the exposed rust white

BLO on Good paint just becomes a sticky mess.

Now & before pics, not the most hard-core patina out there, but good patina takes time

(I just noticed that two years have passed and am still missing the drivers door handle and interior mechanism. D’oh!)
