New to wheelin'. looking for a clean fj40 pre 1975. Clean and stock is best. recently stationed in anchorage hoping to find something in the area, if not I have folks in ohio, and arizona. Have a budget of about 7000, but that includes shipping, and any repairs to make it emissions/street legal in ak. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 1974 FJ40 that is not stock and built for trails that I would trade for a wagon (FJ60, FJ62, FJ80). I have read that the 1974 FJ40 has desireable features for trails but I haven't used it this way (I heard transfecase gearing and 4 spd transmission are desireable)
Reason why I am trading: We are a growing family and I cannot get close to fitting everyone in the FJ40. I also have a stocker 1980 FJ40 that can serve us well around town. I need a wagon that we can use more easily.

I need to sell my rig as much as I hate to do it, I really came to the realization that I just cant work our play with it any more. Do to medical problems I cant use my rig any longer.
This is what I have done so far.
A built Tuned port injection 350.
Built th400.
Cut Dana 44 6" wider than stock LC axles.
Cut Dana 60 6" wider than stock LC axles, the rear has an arb locker and the front is limited slip both are 4:88 gears. Both the front and rear end have all new parts in them.
There is a spring over with reverse shackle done on the rig with stock springs the rear springs are a little wore out.
Saginaw power steering with high steer and reinforced front boxed frame.

I know there have been a lot of newbies with the same question. I am sort of a newbie, but have been visiting this site almost every day for the past 8 months. I have been looking for a clean FJ40 the past year. I wanted something in pretty good condition and think I've found it. The only draw back is the wheel wheels were cut and fender flares added. MY question is am I paying to much? I am paying $8,800(less than they were asking). The cruiser is early 1977 - so no pop out windows(July 1977). 1971 FJ-40 Body- has significant rust in the both rockers and the driver side pan is pretty much gone. Rear corners also have significant rust and there is a piece of diamondtred steel that has been welded over the originial cargo floor in the rear. I have already knocked out the rusted metal and bondo put in by the PO. Its ready for sand balsting. This stuff will be easily fixable in you or someone you know has an sheetmetal fab/welding skills. I have new body panels that I have made to replace the rusted areas. All other body parts (hood, bib, fenders, etc) are in good condition. I also have the original doors that have a little rust at the window sill. These would make great hard half doors (why I kept them)

I have a 1978 FJ40 for sale. Don't know too much about it, it was my fathers but he passed away and I cant drive it so Im forced to put this rig up for sale. What I do know original mustard yellow paint with only paint scratches dents and such as expected on an older car,all work except motor work done by TLC of van nuys california, chevy 350 small block, edelbrock intake, holley carb, pro comp suspension, nice interior new front seats back jumper seats are perfect, wired with speakers all around, new starter, new air filter, new volt regulator, like new 33inch tires. I have no affiliation with this guy just saw a 40 for $300 with no bids. If I lived anywhere neer TN I would have bid and kept my mouth shut but since it is too far for me I though someone closer like to get it for a fixer or parts.

Ran across a 1977 FJ40 on Bainbridge Island this week while on vacation. Asking $11.5K, decent shape, but some rust repair on lower amb. doors. I'm not a "rust expert" so couldn't tell if it was a quality repair or not. Number was 206-265-2226.
