For the longest time I had the clutch spring on the break pedal. Could not figure why the pedal would never return completely. Finally looked at spring in my stash noticed and now the problem is fixed. Looks the same but is a heftier spring.
No one else would probably make that error. My volumn does not have an 11 setting but it does have a -1!

Serious question, should a 1970 55 have a brake pedal return spring? I feel there should be one like on the 40's, but I don't see a place for it to attach to, nor does the pivot pin have a place for it to hook to. Very strange.
here's mine. No guarantee it's correct...

Thanks Pighead, those pics help me out quite a bit. Definitely need the spring and the pivot pin. Also, I can see that the brake pedal adjustment is up against the stop where the pedal switch is. I suspected this is how it is supposed to be adjusted, but my new booster is almost out of threads by the time I adjust it there.

@WarDamnEagle

You're welcome.

It's the same part number as the clutch return spring. Unfortunately it appears to be discontinued. But if you still have your clutch return spring then you can try to match it.

While I am in there, here's all the other parts you might need for both. Pretty sure I was able to get new bushings and some of these other parts a few months back.

Thanks Greg. Was it @DoubleNickels that made and sold the door handle springs? Maybe he would have an interest in this or could provide some tips on fab options...just a thought :meh:
I'm pretty sure these springs are not nearly as bespoke as those door handle springs. IIRC others have already replaced them with non-OEM springs but I haven't searched the forum to try to find what they used - so I could be mistaken. Regardless, I don't think it would be that difficult to replace them.

@MudDauber I would probably start by trying one of these. It would definitely work dimensionally but I'm not an expert on springs rates. 17 lbs per inch sounds like enough but maybe not.

Thanks man. I love McMaster Carr. Maybe I can apply for a part time job there for employee discounts

Here's a couple of photos that might help you on installation. I was going to try to measure the spring rate this morning but can't immediately lay my hands on the springs. I will have to look around some more.
