We wound up noticing a slow leak in the radiator 2 weeks ago. Ugh.... Out it came and off for a re-core job. A small fortune later, we have it back in the truck and running. I still have to drive it farther that around the turnaround in our parking lot, lol.
Anywhoo, front bumper and grill are powder coated. Still working on the rear bumper then it will be coated.
Another big distraction was the treasure stash for my FJ-45 from by buddy @landcrusher909. Looking forward to getting after that project soonish

We have been chasing electrical issues on the truck. I get weird indicator lights on the dash and turn signal issues, plus a RR brake light non-op. It had a K-mart stereo from the 80's in it and we discovered some seriously botched wiring. They tapped into the turn signal circuit for radio powder. So we have a new Toyota turn signal switch and harness coming, a new brake light switch, and pulled all the old radio stuff and we'll see if that helps things.View attachment 3638398View attachment 3638399View attachment 3638400
Built in eq!!!

For real, do I go block off plate? I see someone is making a block off plate with a Bluetooth controller- might be cool. I generally just enjoy the 2f symphony but tunes might be good once in a while.
Block off w/ BT might be pretty cool!
And then run signal to an amp?
Link?

It's been forever since an update. I still have my pig. It has seen pretty limited use for a couple of years. It even hit the "maybe" list a couple of times to sell it, but I have thus far recovered.
My company that makes my living (powder coating) has kept me crazy busy for the last year or so and nothing was getting done Cruiser wise. Roof racks for Bowfin have been nearly dormant as well because of time constraints. All whining aside, I was blessed several months ago with a new (60 year old) employee that turns out has been wrenching on machinery and cars his whole life. He is still adapting to Toyotas but he has great old school talent.
I decided since I never get out of the powder coat shop I would bring the Cruiser shop to me. We cleared out a small corner and put in a hoist and are building up the benches and tools. There is a whole string of trucks to get after and this way I can walk over and oversee things, and with my new help, things keep moving forward
Here's Souiee after getting running and out of the barn

Are there any plans to start producing the roof racks again? Very interested in one for an FJ80 and would love to buy from you if you will be producing again? Otherwise, I need to start looking for a used one somewhere.

I am getting the itch to make some progress on my piggie again. The interior needs some love so I am going to dive into that somewhat.

Thanks to @ceylonfj40nut 's persuasion, I am buying door panels from @npulver 's ad here.

I am looking for opinions on front seats. I need to either recover my factory seats, or switch the fronts to buckets. Personally I like buckets but I am wondering what others think here?

Thanks!

I have to keep in mind that some day, @ceylonfj40nut will be overcome with the swine flu and insist on buying my pig from me!

Personally always enjoyed the bench seat in the pigs although Tippy had sweet Chattanooga cruiser conversion van seats with the double armrest and lumbar pump. :grinpimp:

Does he know the negotiating is with Jessica?

Have a very nice set of FJ43 buckets here but down side is no headrests. I’m unsure if the receivers would be hidden beneath the vinyl or not.

I like buckets. A big part of that is being able to mount a lockable center console. Corbeau makes it easy.

Truth on the negotiating with Jessica part. She likes the idea of having at least one truck she can sit next to me in. That's a hard deal to pass on.

Next question(s):
If I do go bench- what are opinions on new covers? I have a shop that a few guys around me have recommended, but I fear the typical long wait to get them done, especially in spring when everyone wants their upholstery done. I have hog ringed enough covers I am confident with that.
Any opinions on covers? Cruiser Corps has some nice looking ones but they are for 1975 and earlier. I assume they are the same fit but a different look. Mine have a cross hatched insert in them. Any other suppliers?

Thanks!

SOR has two different covers IIRC. One is OEM size but they don't sell foam for those (but I'm sure an upholsterer can handle that) and the other is sort of oversized and you can get their oversized foam. Better for DIY but a bit pricey.

I hear you on the bench seat and the :princess:. When I started dating my bride I drove a '77 T bird with leather bench seats. It was like sitting on a sofa together.

Cruiser Corps has them in grey/blk as well 😉
My new to me door panels are black, I think. I just bought them so am waiting to see how "black" they are once they get here . As long as they aren't grey-ish, I may go with the Cruiser Corps seats in black to keep it all in harmony.

I have Scheel Mann seats in my hj-61-ish truck and love them. Downside is I dont want to spend that kind of $$ just yet on my 55. I am thinking stock seats for now. Still a $2000+ adventure, but cheaper than buckets since the rear needs a redo as well.

Somewhere, somehow, I have to get less Cruisers under my roof. I just haven't accepted it yet- or which ones!

As many times as I have thought of selling my 55, I remind myself that this model is the hardest, and coolest to own. I don't really like easy. Every time I go that route I get fat(ter) and lazy. No challenge, no fun.
