So not that it’s part of my build thread but I’ll have all that read it know I’m scheduled to leap from a plane this upcoming Sunday. I’m terrified and excited all at the same time. Folks who donated are the best ever. I met my goal of $1500 plus $10 more. A young child going through cancer will have the opportunity to do some fun stuff for a year while they go through the worst experience they can in life, IF they live. Childhood cancer is the worst of the worst and there is so little recognition. It’s very very sad and I know it way too well.
If anyone feels a desire to donate still the money will go toward a second child and is tax deductible. Thanks so much.
My fear in this experience is the plane ride. I hate planes. The last time I was in one was June 9th 2005 the day we came back from my daughters Make A Wish to Disney. The ride was turbulent and I had to literally talk myself through my fear. But again, nothing is worse than having your child die from cancer and it’s treatment.

I wonder if we could get some local Catholic Churches to donate. Seriously! I went to a private catholic school for elementary and we had church like 7 days a week. I saw those baskets going around and recognized the opulence of the church even as a child. No offense to my fellow Catholics, I just think they can give up a stained glass window and help a child.

I’ll check around the local churches today

I think there wasn’t much to read after the first page Re: oil pan gasket, unless you do the rear main, I personally tried to unfocus my perception from it - while reading those posts ha ha - I really think you can do it your way and want to see you succeed doing it any way you want. When I did mine, I had this undercurrent of fear that it would leak and I’d have to go through all the pain of pulling it off again. In hindsight, pulling it off again might not be that bad IF it leaked. :crybaby:

Ok so my plan is to keep the gasket tied by floss to the block. I can bend the arches down to add sealer, let it set up slightly tacky then push up, add two screws to hold the corners enough so it won’t pull away. Then I’ll add sealer on the outer arches, let that set up tacky then pull the corner screws, press up pan and add a few screws finger tight for say 30ish minutes then tighten further.
My reason for going this way and not gasket to pan then to block is that the maincaps have a C shaped inverted lip for the gasket to seat up into. IF I go the lesser route, gasket to pan then when pushing them together and up I will NOT be able to be 100% I’ve got the arch in the inverted C of the caps. Yes the cork is stiff enough that they’d tip and I’d know I wasn’t flush but once the pan is up I can’t get my hand inside to shift the gasket into the channel.
There you have it. Here’s a few photos while I get up the courage to add sealer. And since I DO have a brand new tube of FIPG, I’ll use it instead of the ultra black tube which is only 1/3 full.

We just did the same on mine. Used an oem gasket, ran FIPG around the bolt holes on the oil pan, stuck the gasket and let it sit for a while.

Raised the pan to the block, started the bolts and cinched it up. It didn't leak until the morning after. I let it drip for a few days, cinched it up again.

After two days and two more tightenings... I had no more leaks.

Yeah I did essentially what I said. Thankfully I’m thin and flexible. Used my knee/shin to hold it up while I fed in a few screws. Did the corners and screwed it up lightly till I saw the bead of sealer slightly squish out.
Adding screws starting in middle of the sides and worked my way alternating around the four quads basically.
New bolts from an Ace w/ new lock washer since my old ones are all worn out and threads were totally round. It’s going up tight. Periodically trying to push a piece of thin cardboard from the washer box in and it won’t go at all.

I’m feeling good about this.

Nice work! Is the cardboard just to make sure it’s tight enough? Sweet color, can you see it when standing outside the truck? Or in the car next to you!

That’s some Gumby move to hold up the pan and get the shot LOL

Edit on the oil Robbie recommended. Here is the right stuff, still Rotella but 5w40.

So I have not had to put a oil pan on a 2F before, on a Ford and Chevy, yes, 2F no.
On those if reusing the pan, old school is to make sure the bolt holes are flat as there were when new (the bolts sometimes when tightening would crown the holes slightly causing the pan not to be flat on the seal) . I am wondering with people having issues with leaking pan, is this a problem on these?

It’s recommended to lay it on a flat surface and get down low and see how flush the rim is to the table etc. I clamped mine on one end w/ C clamps and used a mallet against a block of wood to tap it more true again.

Cardboard yes, it was helping me to know where to tighten next. It was super obvious what was right and what needed more. Now I can’t squeeze the cardboard in at all.

No seeing it unless the hood is up or your really looking like all of us nosy bastards.

Headlights. Would someone hook me up w/ the length and thread of the screws that go in the yellow grommets? Pretty much all of mine are crap. I figure I can get an equivalent at Ace.

all my headlight points I replaced with OEM ones. there were some that fit from AutoZone, but I like knowing I have the right part for the right place... its a thing... lol

Well thanks for not really helping. How bout you pull one out and send me a photo of it in some calipers? ;)
@cps432, is your front clip off? Could repay the favor?

Forgot it. Thinking on it now, I’ll match one of the crappy ones and go from there.
