For mounting options... Aren't there screw/bolts protruding from the underside of the dashcap for the dash speaker? Could you use those as a mounting point to hold things up a little?

Possible. I’ll be checking.

Don’t know how bad gas engines are but my 3b shakes and rattles the truck like an old war plane and can only imagine how much louder everything would be with a bare aluminum glove box... Maybe want to consider a liner to cut down on things rattling inside.

Would be easy enough to fit something inside .

Well, another day and another few hours of available time. The 60Series GloveBox Insert is finally going to get SOME usefulness.

* adding a shelf in the bottom which will likely have two tabs so that you can decide between a short or tall shelf. Just screw in.

* adding a spot to add a BlueSea dual USB port

* adding 4x3 and RAM mounting to the bottom of the glovebox. There will be Pem nuts already installed and ready to go. This way you can mount a CB or ECU or RAM arm to the underside.

* adding mounting for a fusepanel although I’m trying to narrow down which one to use and the final location. Gotta make sure there is room for the wires.

I have seen enough beat up boxes to last a long while. A duplicate replacement is all I would personally require.

Personally, I'd not mount a fuse panel to the box. I can not imagine the PIA it would be to remove either the heater core or AC unit from under the dash with all of those extra wires in the way.

One man's opinion, your results may vary

  • Entire opening is 12.75”
  • The left edge can move over about 3/16”
  • The left side hole only exists for the OEM light
  • Entire back lower section of back panel can move back .070”
  • Entire right side can be flush. There is the main wire harness that will ride that corner so need to protect it
  • The right side is optimal for wiring because it’s a 4” deep space to the right of the GloveBox
  • The entire bottom off the GloveBox could easily drop a few inches but not sure how much that complicates bending. But it would give it a lot more space
  • Next up is a replacement glove box door that allows the use of a real lock like a Medeco lock. This means adding in a reinforced slit at the top center of the box for the locking cam :flipoff2:

Looking great! You have a buyer when your done. Deeper/more space would be good in my book.

I'd LOVE a 62 option. My cardboard is pretty trashed, so an aluminum insert would be a welcome modification.

Yeah with the FJ62, I am pretty sure the ECU sits right underneath the glovebox insert. I can take a pic tomorrow.

It does. I just had my insert out a few weeks ago plumbing vacuum lines for my 4WD/2WD valve. Doesn't leave any slack to make the bottom portion of the insert lower, but I think you can eliminate the bottom "step" and make the bottom completely flat in favor of an internal shelf.
