I agree with a lot of what is said so far. Keep it simple stupid is words I live by. I would be able to cut any holes I need into it but an aluminum glove box it would be easy. I already have the old style grab handle. So I wouldn't need the extra tabs for it. I am looking forward to what it looks like once you have a sketch made.

I like the idea of the knock-outs that will be available for adding items in the inside of the glove box like power plugs and whatnot. Maybe do two on each side so that the user has the ability to move the plugs around as necessary.

Underneath I would love to see a mount capable of having a couple things added to it like a fuse box, OBDI/II port or even a lower mount that an inverter could be added to. I know this is hard due to the varying widths of mounting holes, so maybe a "slide section" that has a nut to fit a 10-24 screw and then the user can just adjust where the nut is by sliding it up and down the channel to match their mountings.

x2 on having a place for an ecu to mount to, it's one of the few parts of my efi conversion I try to turn a blind eye to

Why kind of ECU? OEM or something like a MegaSquirt?
oem (62 series), though im sure there would be interest in other common computers

I like the idea of the metal box that things can be mounted to the bottom of or inside of but I imagine there a just too many options for fittings to be added unless it will be a very widely used item. I'm leaning towards KISS as well now.

The ECU from a 62 mounts to that empty clip hanging down in upper left. That's a GM ECU in the photo, glove box slides right in.

Late to the party but definitely interested!

I would be good with a simple, well made box that I could drill/cut as needed. No knock outs needed for me.

Maybe I could flock the interior of it ??

Cheers!

Single DIN mount integrated to the fabricated glovebox. I've got my head unit mounted on a bracket hidden in the glovebox and I love it. Keeps the modern looking radio hidden away so that the factory (disconnected) radio stays in the factory spot.

I use a remote control for the radio so I don't have to open the glovebox, or play things off of the aux input that is controlled externally.

I thought about that but I figured most had a center console that had a stereo slot.

Some, but I wouldn't say most. Just an idea!

This is still moving forward but there are some easier things that I’d like to get through first. For those interested, here is the current list of features currently being considered:

• led light inside, make it installer friendly and include leads. Maybe include a new mechanism that has a switch, or a plunger
• Cutout in the back for USB charging port and/or cig port
• fuse panel in the side?
• Could it incorporate something like Doug's Tubs?
• Any chance its a mirror, or same, for RHD?
• Mounting face for iPad or Hema pad or?
• Small shelf/divider?
• I need to check if the boss can be enlarged at all
• Thinking about velcro panel on one side
• cb/ham/ ECU mounting points on underside?
Basically a "base model" that has attachment points (pemnuts) to add additional components.

If knock-outs are part of the design, they should be sized to accomodate the OEM round dash hole plugs used in the FJ60s, e.g., hand throttle location in FJ60s w/o the throttle.

Another batch of time devoted to this project. I have a layout worked out and I'll be having a proto made to make sure everything fits up nice. I will also be working on maximizing the available space where I can. Also I need to look for available mounting points on the back and/or the sides. If there are some then this can be made more robust for some ideas I had. If not then it'll limit its overall usefulness :P

Don’t know how bad gas engines are but my 3b shakes and rattles the truck like an old war plane and can only imagine how much louder everything would be with a bare aluminum glove box... Maybe want to consider a liner to cut down on things rattling inside.

Never said it would be bare aluminum ;)

For mounting options... Aren't there screw/bolts protruding from the underside of the dashcap for the dash speaker? Could you use those as a mounting point to hold things up a little?
