Went to grab the new bolts Georg shipped to Galen and what do you know, he shipped him the correct 4wd shift rod. Did not have a punch small enough to knock out the spring pin so I cut the 90 off of an Allen wrench. Also replaced the factory 5 gear spacer gasket. Always surprises me how nasty that thing gets from storage etc. Will install front half tomorrow and hopefully stabbing her in

Oh man…meant to put the above post in your thread Galen. I’ll copy and paste it.

This is a good Barn update… Mason stops by this afternoon to drop off some tools he borrowed etc. chatted for a bit and I went back to work. Hit Galen’s project about 7:30 and boom…this is what I find on the bench :).
He’s a good dude.

Love reading what is going on. I have a question of ignorance, shocker, as I will be hopefully diving into mine this year....

On the picture of the transmission of this post (before the split case is being added - second to last picture), the lower gears, it looks to me like two teeth are missing off the top gear (at 11 and 5) - It could be shadow etc. If not, is it by design? Just trying to understand what bits look like when they come off/on.

Cheers.

I had the same problem looking for a punch to drive out that roll pin. I used the back half of a drill bit I cut off

Hey Brian, this is a great question and one I have never noticed. But looking at the pic you’re spot on. Since the case is now on there’s no way to review this in person. Copying @orangefj45 Georg as I bet he can provide an answer as to why these two teeth are missing.

You’re looking at the 5th gear hub, not the gear itself. The gear has “all its teeth”. The hub is missing two teeth to align properly with the 5th gear synchro ring.

This picture also clearly shows why we always replace the gaskets on the rear extension housing. They are always oil soaked and will cause a small leak if not replaced ( make sure you clean the surface properly before installing the new gasket ).

Dammit Georg. I have watched that video a few times over the last decade. You post it and sure as sh*t I watched again this morning. Took a second to stand up straight (over an hour long). But darn if I did not learn a few more tricks :). Great information and I appreciate what you do for us.

This hood and roof have been bothering me. Gonna do a cheap quick fix. Knocked it down with 320 and 400. Have some clear but need to pick up some color this week. Planning to have some paint back on her by next weekend. Will be a 10 footer. Just want to preserve it. The finished job will be at the “work truck” level. The bug guard (I removed it) covers a good size dent from the PO. Not fixing anything and will put the big guard back on :).

“Good Enough”. Scratch and shoot was the plan. Had to hit it with a quart of color. Did not even take out the handful or more hail dents that USAA paid me for in 2016. Will let her cure for a month or so and wet sand the garbage out of the hood. Flattening the tires helped the process.

Looks great!
I hit a hail damaged 90's BMW hood with a heat gun and couldn't believe how many of the small dents relaxed out of existance.

Bringin the 40 in next! She needs to get back to her roots. Spring Green or nuthin!
