I ordered some gaskets and cleaned up the two manifolds
What did you paint the exhaust manifold with? i ended up painting mine with graphite (spray aerosal graphite into cup and then brush on manifold) it soaks into the pours of the cast iron and doesn't rub or burn off. It can't be removed without sandblasting though...

I painted mine with Very High Temperature (VHT) primer and VHT paint.

I forgot the curing time, but you got to crank your engine and get the manifold hot for so many minutes. Then let it cool. Then crank it up and do it again.

It's been a year and mine still look great. Would send a pic but I'm out of town.

I used a High temp paint.it a said its good for 2000° I used a primer as well it was also good for 2000° .on the intake I used EastWoods cast aluminum paint.it been so hot down here I have been setting the manifolds in the sun and then I have been useing my heat gun in the ports to heat cycle it.I am wait for the gaskets it come.I hope to have it running this weekend.

Looks like we all used the same brand paint VHT (<- Amazon link) Very High Temperature. This is what Jason (@reevesci) uses on all his headers. So, I used it in mine. They have a cast iron paint as well as primers and sealers, but Jason said he has never had to use the primer or the sealer. This is his procedure:

"I use VHT header paint. It is rated for 1300-2000F. It works really well if you apply it right. I paint the header and let it dry for at least a FULL day... THEN, get the motor to operating temp SLOWLY, residential driving OR idling to OP temp in the driveway. Then let it idle at 30-45 minutes. Kill the engine let it cool for 20-30 minutes and then start up and idle again for another 30-45 minutes.

Following this protocol has given me the best END result...."

Well, 44 is at the muffler shop today! I know because the exhaust tech called, all in a tither...

Me'an daBoise had just laid down, for our mid-morning nap, when my phone rang. I answered and the tech started throwing out terms like, "problem, v-band too close to oil pan", "I need to cut the skid plate" and "I need you to come to the shop".

When I got to the exhaust shop, he showed me the v-band was, in fact, too close to the oil pan. Rather than the indignant Danny, the logical, understanding Danny presented with, "how do we fix this". He suggested we drop the tri-pipe, cut the v-band flange, weld an 8" extension and a new flange, then reinstall the tri-pipe. Note: on multiple occasions, the guy that runs the exhaust shop told me that "we don't work on cars. We don't drop headers".

I called the auto shop and asked if they wanted me to drop the tri-pipe and he said, "no, we still have work to do, I'll have the exhaust shop do it". I handed the phone to the tech and he got his marching orders and all was good, for a moment...

THen I asked what the problem was with running the exhaust above the skid plate... The tech said, "I can't make a requisite bend above the skid, plate for two pipes". I asked why there were two pipes... Why not use the collector on the passenger floorboard? He grabbed a ladder and climbed up and came down with the collector. No one told him it was there.

So, I told him I wanted the exhaust run exactly like the old exhaust, keeping the heat shield between the pipe and the BOSS air bag and keeping the other heat shield between the pipe and the aux tank. And that I want a quiet muffler.

I asked if he wanted me to stay there and he said, he wouldn't need me again.

The exhaust world returned to its axis and smiles were shared all around. :) I paid for the work and left, hoping I never need to discuss this again... Four times is enough.

So, 44 should go back to the auto shop tomorrow, for their final tweaks, tests, etc. - they haven't been able to drive it yet (other than to the exhaust shop)... I may get it back next week!

Collected more steel for winter sill, floor, corner repair. Cleaned up this floor acquired from fellow board member, and happy with original steel instead of reman panels.
I have no idea how to get this in without tub off, but it will be an adventure :-) I have the last piece and center beam to replace too.
