l almost bought a personal plate 25 years ago...KEN 11E...for £300. sadly l changed my mind...then l was offered The KEN 1 plate for about £60k l didn't there.....today l'd consider WTF 5UP..if its available..

Today l ventured out having finished the ute's tub resto (well almost..still the repaint to do pics of how it looks later today, its as even as l can get it )...
l wandered into my local auto supplier to get an exhaust bracket for the new manifold pipe (they had it in stock) and a bonus... they can supply enamel paint & we managed to match my ute's 'beige'..to.. (camo''' beige)...2.5L.. £52...plus primer 2.5L..£36. That was the highlights.... l then ventured into the supermarket to buy food/supplies...no milk.. as the farmers are on strike. (news to me, but solidarity with them..l can live with black coffee).. no chicken different farmers same strike...oh well fish it is..(assuming my new neighbours the otter family don't get them all)..and today being August 12th the shooting seasons now began..so l'll have grouse/pheasant/veal options if they're available...tomorrow l'm off to hunt down a bread maker...not a wife..the machine. Then onto fitting the new manifold, l'll try to remember to record the before exhaust grunt & the after...for you all. Lastly l fitted a set of glow plugs.. the previous set were 6V...its now got 11V and starts alot better.

Ouch....You'll be splitting the unit & removing the shaft & bearings... that looks like goosed bearings...l'd check your shaft for play too...So I guess my transmission came with a complimentary built in coffee grinder.

Got a hood with 784 fewer rust holes (aka none) from Mark at Mark's Offroad, a brand new 22 gallon tank from Aero Tanks and bought some door bows from a Mud member. Also filled the tank on my welder (which of course had to be replaced due to age) and a few other welding supplies.

If they’ve seen my 40 they’d not be surprised. After driving down the Washington - Oregon - California coast I was ready to leave LA. On the way out of LA I decided to see if I could keep up with traffic on the freeway. With 31 x 10.50 Michelin XC ATs the speedometer read 10% low.
At +/- 80 mph the 40 with stock steering and worn steering components got very light and floaty. Afterwards it wasn’t as bad. When the needle reached 95 mph, I pulled the plug. Speed was climbing a steady pace… not fast by today’s standards, but plenty for a 40. It readily became apparent that top speed was most likely a matter of where the redline was (or how many rpm I felt it could handle).
95 mph plus 10% = +/- 104.5 mph. I’ll never know what it’s true top speed was back then… but I didn’t care. In ‘98 I didn’t have a cell or even a digital camera
.Now, with a (net) 165 hp 1972 350 vs the Sept 1969 +/- 300 hp (back in 1998) who knows. Don’t have any desire to test it out.
Now with shims to increase castor (despite marginally longer shackles) it’ll drive straight down the road and almost return to center on its own. All the TREs are new 555s and the Scout II P/S box eliminates the belcrank. I’m sure it will still go faster than any 90” wheel base lifted 4x4 should go.
I feel like I started the 40 land speed record theme with my gps post a couple of weeks ago lol.
Btw, I haven't returned to the "closed course with professional driver" since then, but I did take it over the 7k foot highway pass that was inconceivable with the 2f (not driving on the shoulder with hazards on..) that stands between me and boating on Lake Tahoe.
The 5.3 didn't notice at all.
That was one of my goals with this.
Stoked.
What have I done?
- drive it daily
- painted and installed the hood
- put a family bimini top on (awesome to get the blazing midday sun off you but flaps like crazy)
- replaced the cheapo Amazon stainless steel muffler with a much quieter walker. Lost the hot rod rowdy sound, but much more stealth for daily driving
- 4x 3 point should belts from seatbelt planet arrive tomorrow
- retorqued suspension and engine components
- added a beater phone to run Torque app full-time to monitor temp, rpm and volts. Running a GPS app window on top of that
- 4x4 labs custom front bumper in process (thanks Luke!)
To do:
- find a good deal on a warn 8274
- find a good deal on a storage tailgate, or make one
- drive the crap out of it before the snow flies

Got the hard top back on. Had a hitch receiver cut into the factory rear bumper with some inner channel extra plating, along with a 7pin trailer harness and Anderson connector.
The big plus for the hard top was getting shoulder belts installed. I was getting pinged left right with traffic fines from the cameras for not wearing a seat belt. Unfortunately the cameras do not see if your wearing a lap belt.

Are there speedometer housing gear sets available for different ratios when using larger tires or re-gearing?
I gather that there are different options for the speedometer drive. One is internal to the transfer case and the other is at the end of the speedometer cable and can be removed from the outside of the transfer case. They would need to be changed as a set (pair). I don’t know how much difference they would make.
Some owners use a gps or gps speedometer to monitor speed. Myself, another mudder created vinyl numbers which are calculated to match my speed. My speedometer now goes up to 200 kph (somewhat over 120 mph). The odometer hasn’t changed. It still is out by 20+%. I’m running 3.70 gears rather than 4.11s and 33” tires.

Same for me..3.70 and 31’s. I am about 17% off and I do use that iPhone speedometer. But, when I don’t have it, I’m speeding thru spots where they now have signs…SPEED ENFORCEMENT ZONE. MANDATORY COURT APPEARANCE REQUIRED.

FWIW: Being that I run 32" tires and upgraded my 3rd members to 3.70 gears, my speedometer was obviously off. So after installing the new 3rds, I did a few test runs using GPS speeds vs the OEM speedometer. I took the GPS speed and divided by the OEM speedometer, and that was my ratio for a correction device. For my rig, I ran the speedo up to 40 and the GPS was a 48. The I ran the speedo up to 50 and the GPS was at 60. Thus my calculation were 48/40 and 60/50 which equaled 1.20 as my correction ratio.Same for me..3.70 and 31’s. I did a lot of research on MUD and found a company out of Sacramento, CA - Commercial Speedometer. Gave them a call, talked to Chuck, and he built me a Correction Syncro box and shipped it out that night.

Added another to the herd. This was a customers truck, we did many projects for him including a fresh hub to hub disc brake axle w/powder-coated parts, 3FE (a local shop installed) in front of an new H55F/split-case (with park-brake) we built, OME suspension, etc. I need another Cruiser like a hole in my head buuuuuuuut it's just fun to rip around in.
