Drove it!

The 40 had been ailing with a badly rebuilt FJ60 Brake Master Cylinder and a slipping alternator belt. My daily driver, a 2009 Mazda 3, was in desperate need of rear brakes. Stopped by NAPA, picked up parts for both vehicles, then tore into the Mazda, only to realize that I needed a special tool to retract the rear calipers (needle nose pliers weren't cutting it).
Snagged :princess: on her way out the door, had her wait while I dropped the new master cylinder into the FJ40. Then had her help bench bleed the master, and bleed the brakes. She left, I tightened up the alternator on my own, and I took the 40 out on a rescue mission for a loaner tool from NAPA.

Weather was so nice, I decided to tool around Cecil County, and take the long road home. Took some video of the 283 screaming at 65mph. For once, all systems seem go!

Still not a "reliable" mode of transportation - but at least I have it to keep my reliable transportation reliable! The 40 picked up the loaner brake tool, and got it back home so I could finish the Mazda. So far, no leaks from the new master cylinder. :steer:

Finished the Cruisercorps seat cover project. Gray looks pretty good. I am definitely not an upholsterer, but considering how crappy everything else looks I am happy.

Stuck some ratty used hubcaps on too.

P-A-T-I-N-A.....Sheen produced by age, wear, and polishing; or any such acquired change of a surface through age and exposure......Looks great!

Took 44 for a ride to the exhaust shop, to arrange new exhaust, for after her rebuild. Also arranged to have her headers ceramic-coated.

Then I delivered 44 to the auto shop that will pull her engine and transfer it to the machinist who will be doing the rebuild.

Also, delivered an OEM Engine Gasket Kit to the machinist and new Denso W14EXR-U plugs to the auto shop.

She's gone, but not forgotten...

Tomorrow, my son-in-law (Tommy) and I will leave, with Gunner and Tommy's dog, Herc, for 1-2 weeks of very remote exploration... both in his 4runner Trail and by foot (hiking) - we are planning to camp at 7k' and above and are hoping the weather man is right and we have a bit of snow while we are there. Exciting times!!

When we return, I'll take the Tundra down to the auto shop and tow the shell of 44 back home, where it will stay until it is time to install her rebuilt heart.

Y'all keep MUDdling along in my absence!

BTW: Please help us... let your buddies know about the https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/veterans-highway.854710/ thread.

God's speed lad! Enjoy

Not a darn thing, two weeks of rain and a week in Florida left me with a lot of yard work to do. I have either been out of country or out of state for the past 2 years. Retired April 7th for good. However, I did get the parts and supplies to build my paint booth. I will post pics and part numbers for the McMaster-Carr filter media, and the booth is the Harbor Freight 10' x 17' portable garage...on sale for 179 which is cheaper and quicker that 2x4s and more durable than plastic.
