I actually was lucky enough to spend a good chunk of today working on it. I think I finally got my alternator issues sorted out. It SEEMS to be functioning normally. I guess I won't know for about a week.. it seems to be the light span of alternators for me lately.

I also found in taking apart my dash looking for shorts, that my dash light sockets were empty. I've owned my cruiser for 12 years and for 12 years I've driven in pitch blackness while driving at night... why I never thought to check to see if the light bulbs were just missing I don't know, but $1.37 later I have dash lights!!!!

Then I started cutting off the rear pull points to get ready to start building a bumper this weekend. Just took a break from drawing up some parts to cut out later for it.

I also have given up on my tailgate project. It's not hopeless, I just have come to the realization I really don't want a tailgate!!!! I am now hunting for barn doors to replace the ones I made into a tailgate. DOH! I just haven't been happy with it and wanted barn doors back.

Tomorrow's plan is the cut off the front bumper mounts that came out badly, and make plasma cut parts to replace them and have a front bumper again.

Soooo much to do before April. We're taking the cruiser the farthest I've ever taken it from home and I've got a mountain of stuff to address before we drive it 700miles!!!

Replaced my crusty nasty hack job of a battery box with something a little more awesome. Mine bolts to the firewall where the stock heater blower was. Made it in about an hour today... the plasma table is totally cheating! I'm an OK fabricator at best, but the table makes it soooooo easy to make awesome parts. No one is ever even going to see the "FJ40" on the gusset, but I was making a gusset anyway so why not... :) Going to recut the top plate as the holes were not quite right and I want it perfect.

You can see the crusty old hack job on the right in the last picture. :) I sucked at making stuff when I was 16.

Found out my oil cooler should be cleaned with-----get this---Cascade! Cleans the water side sparkling!

It's not often I get to work on my own vehicles. The 40 hasn't had much use during the winter since I ditched the doors 4 years ago. Well I dug them out of the shed and blasted them. Pretty rotten on the bottom so I replaced the metal. Then I noticed this. Going to take some creative metal working to fix that.

Are those stock indicator lights. If not where did you get them?

Better than most of us on a good day.

What kind of plasma table?

Thanks. Torchmate 4x4. Working trying to make it pay some bills someday, but it's also pretty handy for making myself cool stuff.

Seeing that lettering cut in the battery tray makes me think one could make some cool custom emblems, bumper pates (plates to screw or weld to bumpers with the vehicles name cut in it, or the year of the truck, etc), or other fun items for a little "equipment reimbursement fund".

Cleaned up the old girl

Took advantage of some above freezing weather today and got the 40 out and cleaned up a bit. Hadn't been moved in a month or so but as always she fired right up. Also got the inside rear view mirror/interior light unit mounted- it's from an 85 4Runner. When the top is off the windshield mounted mirror always vibrated a bit- this one is mounted to a plate attached to my rollcage and is solid as a rock. She's a good 40! Gary S
