Nothing major, started refinishing the doors just before a cold snap, so I ordered and installed a pair of Bestop two-piece doors. Love them. They're not made to fit the factory hard top, but they seal up nicely - to the point I had to open the vents even on a cold-ish evening and with the heater core bypassed. Now I don't have to rush on the doors, which is good, as I don't seem to be able to rush on anything on this beast. Also installed a CCOT floor mat (the Aussie thing), much prefer the look and reduction in noise.

I'd like to see a picture of how the soft door fits with your hard top.

Sure thing - as you can see the door doesn't follow the 'narrowing' of the hardtop, but the thick weather-stripping really seems to tighten up when driving - I can feel / hear no drafts around the door while driving:

The bottom fits just right:

NP, pretty sure they line up perfectly with the Bestop tops.

Finished the resto on the heater and the water control valve. Also started install of a (new) bilge blower for the carb cooling.

I need a bigger garage. Finally mated back the 3 speed to the 2F. Just hope I don't have to open any of this up again soon :-)
Dropping it in now...

Thanks for the pic. I always figured that the heater motor would interfere and keep the turbo from fitting. From the pic it does look close. How did you route the exhaust? I'm assuming you still have the 4.11 gears. Stock four speed tranny? What kind of mileage do you get? More info about this swap please.

If you haven't already figured it out, I find this very interesting. I have a 94 K2500 6.5TD pickup. If I can ever get the funds to finish getting needed parts I plan to put a 6.2 NA in my 40. I just need clutch parts and exhaust manifolds to be able to get the swap started.

Good God man, how many different sets of holes are in your rear bed / sill ?

I didn't count them, but between the stock holes for the door, the holes for the aftermarket tire carrier, the OEM holes for emblems, and assorted other seemingly unmotivated holes (all of which were covered by the aftermarket diamondplate fixed tailgate and diamondplate on the quarters ), my right rear quarter panel was Swiss cheese - this doesn't look all that bad in comparison

My old B diesel has been making me deaf... until it died a couple of weeks ago. Time for a change......

1JZ Turbo VVTI is well on the way to running a LOT quieter than that old diesel......

Hi Ian.

Won't the engine management/wiring be a bit of headache with that engine?

Are you going to do all that side yourself?

Hi Tom,

There's a guy coming in to do the wiring today, so I hope he knows what he's doing. He has done a few at the same workshop, so he probably knows the wiring off by heart!

Apologies for dropping the diesel, but it really has affected my hearing! I drive the BJ every day and on a long run, the stereo is turned up to drown out the noise from the engine. When I slow down, I turn the music down so people aren't offended! I have a ringing in my left ear, which does not go away!

I still like the simplicity of a diesel and maybe I would have been happy with a 1KZ turbo, but fancied a change..... and some easy listening!

Cheers,

Ian

Maybe that's why I have hearing problems too....

But there are advantages... I can sleep easily because noise seldom wakes me.

And it's very easy to switch off when people are lecturing me because it's so hard to make out their words anyway...

:D
