getting ready to put in a radio... my old toyota one died (rusted/corroded) ... got this older speaker for a retro toyotaish look at some point probably at 11:30 pm or midnight some time this week or next ill have time to install the radio LOL
Looks great!! I elected, after buying the bedliner and much deliberation, to NOT do bedliner on the inside. The black bedliner shows TONS of dirt/dust and is impossible to keep clean. I'm going with 2 coats of body color and clear coat with some floor mats, carpet, etc.
Switched my tire carrier hinges from top to bottom (and vise versa). The top one has play in it and allowed it to squeak incessantly. After switching them, it is much, much better with less play and almost no squeaking. Annoyance 1 fixed. Also replaced the old hinge bolts with new zinc-plated ones. Then I plugged 2 dash holes with plugs from McMaster-Carr. Looks way better! Dash panel is now complete.
Hello I spent half a day of on the weekend installing new body mounts.five were just not there and two had know bolts in them. It really made it difference. The bolts for mounts that go under the running boards were to big so I tried to drill a bigger hole but the drill bit caught and the drill spun back and I think I might have broken something in my wrist. But the fj40 rides so much better

yesterday's tally:
-all new rubber fuel lines
-new fuel filter
-drilled/tapped/plugged fuel pump (BSPT even)
-rehashed interior heater hard lines to get rid of T's
-replaced all but one heater hose. ran out of hose and clamps
-finished building and laid in rear wiring harness
not as far as i wanted to get, but not bad for a day.
No doubt! Saturday morning came quick after that Woodford. At least we figured out why the tranny hole was weeping .
I'll take a broken drive shaft yoke over a busted pinion or candy caned drive shaft any day. I just ordered 2 new ones.
Thanks for the compliment, I was amazed that a new set of tires and FJ60 steering could make such a positive difference in the truck's capabilities.
I really like the 37" Pitbull Rockers on a 17x9 rim. They look almost tall and skinny. Man do they grip! I had to adapt my driving style in the big rocks to a much more measured and progressive application of the skinny pedal. Much less banging of the diffs and axles on the rocks.
Picked up this like new air hose from a GM truck for my on board air, 5 bucks on ebay. It has valve stem threads on both ends so I picked up a valve stem x 1/4" NPT fitting (also on ebay) and a male quick connect. Comes with a handy pouch too.

I ran into my FJ40's PO at a funeral in my home town this morning. When I bought it in '91, I never got the top from him. He moved away a few years back and we lost touch. I asked him about the top, but he wasn't sure what happened to it. He gave me the name of a local J**p dealer that hauled away some old CJ parts and said my top might have gone with the lot. I spoke with this guy and he actually has the top. He is calling me this weekend after he takes a look at it, he said he has no use for it. Not sure what kind of shape it's in, he referred to it as a goat barn. Apparently his goats has a fondness for Toyotas.
Got tired of all the water in the cab after driving in the rain. Finally removed the fiberglass top and after cleaning the gasket and both contact surfaces put down a small bead of polyurethane sealant on both surfaces of the gasket to ensure a water tight seal. The excess that squeezed out after tightening down the bolts was done with mineral spirts. I'll have to wait and see if that does the trick, but I have high hopes. For sure I can't see light around the edges of the roof anymore; that's a good sign.
Cleaned up the shop by building this little engine cart to hold an extra 2F. It's just scrap 2" sq. tube, some 14 & some 16ga. rear uprights ar 1x2x14ga. Casters were cut off some other scrap engine cart I was given.
total cash cost- $0.00
Getting engine off the big engine stand and outta the way- priceless.
I spent a little time installing door latch strikers And new door pins and bushings
I really made a difference. I have been able to get rid Of about 90% of the rattles.
My next really big project will be dropping the transmission and transfer case and replacing the seals
But I won't to find a overdrive unit. If anyone has any advice on dropping the trans.
And transfer case i would appreciate it and is there one rebuild Kit that is better then
The rest? Thanks
