Ghetto flares!!!!!!

GHETTO FLARES!!!!!!

Youngest daughter and I went down to Dysney to do some wheeling at the local annual Land Cruiser Picnic. Right before we were leaving I realized I had not put fender flares on my 40 since I put the new 97 fj80 axle in. It's 8 inches wider and throws mud/gravel up into the cab and inside front windshield just driving across the gravel parking lot! It's 5:30 am Saturday morning.

Went to the Wal-Mart Supercenter (Open 24hrs) and purchased a roll of lawn edging. Cut it and slapped it on with self tapping 1/4 inch screws. Looks Ghetto but it worked fantastic. Never had mud or rocks inside the cab or on the windshield.........However, I will replace with fender flares.

Those aren't ghetto flares, they are Aussie flares! Most trucks have them in Oz because they will defect your car if the rubber sticks out even an 1/8".

Had a buddy come over and we put the top on last night. It's weird....putting it on always, in my mind, takes longer than taking it off...

Got down to 26 degrees last night. Glad I got that done for this morning's ride into work! :steer:

How was the turn out? That's cools about the shoot - I went up to fall crawl and had a great time wheeling

Threw a 1HD-FTE motor in the old rig.

Mechanical sorted.

Would post a pic but I cannot work out how to delete the old pics I have posted and free up my quota hahaha

I saw BK at fall crawl. Broke a drive shaft yoke and dislocated my steering stub shaft.

Good times! Now to find the next weak link ;). Your truck looked kick ass btw

Pulled the rear axle and replaced all the wheel bearings, inner races, and wheel seals. Went with longer wheel studs. And I finally installed Steve's disk brake brackets.

Also, I finally mated the OM617 to the NV4500/Orion after much swearing and beer over the last few weeks. Slowdowns were primarily due to having to dial in the bellhousing, multiple pilot bushing adapter depth issues, bought the wrong clutch kit, wrong slave cylinder bracket, wrong release bearing yadda yadda yadda.

Busy weekend...
Next project is to clean the garage!

Spray Rustoleum bed liner on the bottom side

Finally got the bottom sprayed with bed liner, not sure if I'm wanting to do the inside with it just yet. Will see how it looks after it dries.
