What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week? (74 Viewers)

Sunday I stripped down two sets of doors to make one really, really nice rust/rot -free set, and reconstructed and replaced one of the limiter brackets that got ripped off somewhere over the past 40 years (same one missing on both sets). Today I dropped off the shells and frames at the soda blaster's to clean them up for paint next weekend.

Added tunes

Found places to hide a CD player & 2 6-1/2" speakers in my 72 FJ40 without drilling any new holes in the body.

Made a bracket out of sheet stainless, (panels from an ex-gas grill).

Stereo in top of glove box hanging from a bracket that rests on the top right edge of the box and bolts to the back side of 2 of the hood hinge screws.

One speaker angled under the top right corner of the cowl on a bracket mounted to a blower motor bolt, duct bolt and a windshield hinge bolt.

One speaker mounted to a vertical bracket sharing passenger seat frame & drivers seat hinge bolts plus one unexplained threaded hole in the floor behind the tunnel cover. Under-seat speaker wrapped in trunk liner to protect it.

Pretty easy to use from the driver's seat with the glove box door open.

Got the undercoating on and the body work completed. Next up finish the floor...should be primed and bedlined by this weekend!

Started it for the first time with the custom EFI!! I'm so happy I could die!!

Hard top and all doors painted Dune Beige and Cygnus. (rest of truck in the next few days) Tore 2F down to find 5 and 6 frozen with rust. GRM, that looks very familiar... Head is now cleaned with all valves and seats ground and in perfect order. Assembled rear doors. Still fighting with the driver door to get all new guts to work smoothly. About to power wash the frame (good frame with only minor touch ups needed) and install all new brake lines. Remove unneeded steering parts to make room for the FJ60 PS conversion.

All in all, a good week.

Finished my FJ60(62) steering installation (write up coming soon). Installed new 37" Pitbull Rockers on 17" rims.

changed the oil
minitruck booster and new MC(original mc leaked from rear)
bled brake lines from the coffee colors and sludge
fixed indicators
pulled out old cassette deck and all stereo wiring
wired up off road lights to new relay and random switch PO installed
Traced wiring for second random switch PO installed
new battery terminals
installed a frame ground
new engine block ground
tightened power steering so there is less steering wheel wobble
worked on idle and cold start idle
installed an air filter


need to:

put the front drive shaft in

replace t-case plug - with help from nice people i identified the missing plug bolt to my t-case

Identify my starter. napa remaned it and it still is bad... low turnover speed and high amp draw. It bolts to my SBC 327 bell housing and not the motor. not a TLC, not a SBC starter. the hunt IS ON.

I had the same starter on my SBC 350 when I bought it. Try older Chevy v8 like a 1965 k10 with a 327.

You can also get one that has a cast iron nose cone, bolts to the block, fits inside your bel housing... Earily corvette with a 4 speed.


Read on annother forum, 1971 chevelle 350 w/ 4 speed.

But even better! ever need a mobile, maneuverable hoist with a Marlin ToyBox?? I KNOW! ME TOO!!

Changed the oil and filter, greased everything and gave it a once over before winter hits (use it to plow the driveway in the winter).
Also started raking the leaves so I used the truck and trailer to pull a couple of loads of leaves to the bush. While doing so, I noticed a mouse scurry out from under the heater and got up on the dash. He sat on the dash the whole time! Looks like I'm not the only one getting ready for winter!

Made a headliner, and put strips of self adhesive foam around interior for sound absorption.
If anyone is interested in the foam, it works pretty well. Comes in any width/thickness you like. I used 2" wide and different thicknesses depending on area. From 1/16"-1/2". Cost me about $85, but I have plenty left over to do it again if I need to. PM if interested in buying material, I will put you in touch with the guy that sells it.

Well, let's find out! Too bad I'd have to pull the cage to do it, but that camper is an 8'10" and would probably do my suspension a number.


I do have FJ454 stashed away in the back corner of the shop and he has a flat bed on currently. I could make it work...

Other than turned on some rock and have a beer beside my cruiser? I pulled the passenger seat and fuel lines out prepping for a fuel system replacement.

My truck loves it when we have a beer and listen to some music together. Good times.

I blasted the original buckets and hardware and had them zinc plated and then powder coated the headlight rings.

Nice, huh?

Installed new bench seat and 4 point harnesses for the kids and since the rain is on the way soon, put the hardtop back on.

78 hardtop hatch

I put a rear hatch on my fresh painted hardtop so I can keep my alum tailgate. Been running a soft top for 10 years. I also put in a new stereo with speakers and camo taped up the old dash pad. Got new hubs' tie and relay rod and ends to do next.
