Spending today getting it ready for Fordyce this weekend. It's going to be 112 in Sac Saturday so probably 108 here in the foothills. Yeah.. I think going to the mountains is a good plan this weekend.

Kind of thinking I'm just going to drive to the first water crossing and spend the rest of the day in the creek instead of wheeling though.

Nothing glamorous...

Last night, I rebuilt a brake caliper on my '78. I bought the Toyota caliper rebuild kit in 1993 (that'd be 20 years ago). At the time, I figured any truck as old as a '78 FJ40 would need the calipers rebuilt. Obviously not.

So, years later, the brakes seem to drag and squeak a bit, so I figured that now is the time, while I am re-sealing the front axle. I was impressed that the pistons were rust free, and only had some built-up goo on them. Blowing out the pistons, however, isn't that easy or much fun, after you get a face-full of atomized brake fluid a few times.

Turd polish LOL I needs me some of that :)

been adding cruiser lights to my trailer... slow going... got kids

Harbor freight abrasive discs ...about five of them so far. Some before and after pics.

Wasn't so nice before. Still have to do the hood, doors, aprons and bezel...not looking forward to it!

Fordyce! Didn't really go as planned. Cruiser ran like crap, right on the edge of overheating. Then I smashed a brake line and didn't have a spare. DOH! Another truck we were with ripped the steering box off the fame. By the time we fixed it we wen't going to have time to get where we were going, so we just went to the creek, ate lunch and went back out. Got out to pavement and called AAA to tow the cruiser home. Made me pretty sad, in the 11 years I've owned it it's only the 2nd time it had to get towed home. One working front brake was just too unsafe to even think about driving it on the road.

More importantly, my wife and I had a long discussion about the cruiser. We have pretty much come the to conclusion that once her truck is driving again, it's time to rip the cruiser down to nuts and bolts and go through it bolt by bolt and make it reliable again.

This week I cut out the rusty sill and ugly ruined rear frame member and welded in a new sill and new rear frame member. Still need to do more body work to make it look nice, but 100 X better than before.

Replaced the valve cover gasket, tracked down my exhaust leak and fitted my homemade aluminum door panels. Just need to finish drilling them and filing and get screws and inserts for the door then send them to get coated in black powder

and you did all of that without even moving the crap out of the rear ? that is serious :hillbilly:

Pulled the three speed transfer case out and mated it to a np203 reduction box. While there are other gearing options available, my wish is to keep it old school...period correct if you will.

Spare mounted on top of the cage, three nato cans on one fender, inside, and a co2 bottle mount made from scrap lumber, all connected with nice snap-on ratchet straps I won at an event. Running boards have been removed and replaced with angle iron. Tailgate chains installed to reinforced tub corners so I can sit and stand on it. Carb is now on the way. E-locker circuit tested and trimmed down to fit in some to-be-purchased project box.

New Napa clutch master leaking. :bang: Maybe 6 months old, but only a hundred miles or so around town...

10 days to Rubithon...

Installed iPor skid plate, front diff guard, and built a rack for the back to put the coolers on @ rubithon.

Also got some air bags on my truck to help out some for the 4000 mile round trip.

ordered body mounts from Kurt
