changed the spark plugs and adjusted the valves!

New wheel cylinders in the back. This thing is almost road worthy again after sitting for 20+ years.

Picked up an old but in excellent condition set of Bestop 1/2 doors for $40 on CL. They have had a decal of a Panda bear on them at one time, anybody recognize? I will have to find something to take the old glue off. Kind of leaves a ghost image of the Panda at this time.

::good vibes your way:: :D

thanks so much

I am remiss not letting y'all know:

it passed :bounce: for the first time on the first try in 6 years :bounce2: :bounce:

and I didn't do ANYTHING to it, no changing sparkplugs, no alc tricks, no oil change, no . . . . , and it had two-month-old fuel, too :hillbilly:

I only had to wait in full sun at 112 degrees with the truck idling and the exhaust heating up the driver's side from below - for 50 minutes

needless to say, there wasn't dry piece of clothing left on me afterwards

Took mine about 2 1/2 miles higher in elevation than Destin. Mosquito pass, around Leadville CO. About 12,000 feet when we ran into a snowfield. Snow and loose rocks stopped us before we got to the top. West side of the trail heading in to Alma is still impassable due to snow...

I love that area

Removed, prepped and sprayed the running boards with Duplicolor bed liner (black). Wanted a better look, and get more traction. When I removed the running boards, it appears I had two types, they look identical top side, but one side had a slotted port for a carriage bolt to secure it to the frame stud. The other had a hidden nut in the square tubing on the underside of the running board.

Of course when I tried to UN bolt it sheared off. I got out my drill and the trusty “E-Z Out ™” but this time I decided not to follow the published instructions ( copied below from their website):

  • Drill small pilot hole down center of broken bolt to be removed
  • Soak with penetrating oil
  • Insert proper size E-Z out™
  • Tap with small hammer gently in place while turning counter clockwise to set the extraction bit
  • Tap harder with 3# maul and turn with all your might
  • Bang the hall out of it screaming obscenities as you watch the hardened E-Z out™ snap off below the surface of the subject bolt
Since I have never in my life had an E-Z out work as prescribed, I just drilled out the spot welds, and removed the hidden nut, then welded in a bolt, that would secure it to the frame stud.

Any way now my running boards are uniform and skid proof

yeah, but not dent proof ;p - don't ask me how I know

BTW, where were you on Friday ? I was the only 40 there - the 80s are crowding us out :crybaby:

Bought this accessory for my 40 to encourage the family to get out more and enjoy it. Do not understand the PO‘s use of camo on the side and blaze orange inside but what ever. I think I will go full OD in and out or desert tan.

Made some paddles to go along with it.

just paddle the damn canoe, the camo will come off on the rock gardens of the Verde sooner than not - BTDT ;p

the paddles look sweet - we only have plastic, though

I hereby declare VICTORY on "Project Paint the Half Doors". Just need one gasket for the passenger side mirror from SOR ;-)

NOICE

oh yeah, and then I took the battery fuses out of mine - more garage time for the next 2 months :frown:

oh yeah, and then I took the battery fuses out of mine yesterday - more garage time; won't be going to AZ for the next 2 months :frown:

I'm new to the FJ 40 but I wanted to show the smittybuilt bumper for a J**p TJ that I customizes to fit my 74. I liked the style so I thought I would make it fit.
