Re-finished the stock steel 4-runner wheels I got from the boneyard, installed my brand new TCH carb - runs like a champ, ordered 5 new SS LTB's (34x10.5) which should get here next week, and took the rig wheeling with my bro who is in from out-of-town. Heck of a good week :)

Destin, the resto is coming along nicely. Looks really, really nice. Great job.

For me, regular maintenance tonight. Valve adjustment and new spark plugs.

Destin it looks really good but my only critisism is it needs some black here and there, like the straps on the gas tank. I'm not sure whats stock but thought just a bit of black to break up the red. Don't get me wrong, I think red cruisers are best! Very nice work though.

Just been driving mine lately.....experimenting with top colors on occasion as i test fit them.....I've settled on keeping the OD Green that was the very first I made......Its got a nice fit and looks like it belongs.......

It will look more balanced with the pewter seat bars and the upholstered seats :)

I started to get excited - it's starting to look like a cruiser

I finished my knuckle build (thanks to LukeZero for the tool). After months of tearing things apart just to find more wrong, it was nice to put things together and see progress.

After collecting better body parts from mud members, I couldn't resist the urge to bolt it all together to test fit everything. I'm jazzed up! No more crappy dented hood and fenders, no more rusted bib, no more cheezy rear fender flares (thanks to a few weekends with a metal break and the welder.

I'm about ready for primer & paint.

I did a brake job on the two rear wheels so far:

Early '71 FJ40: Sand blasted the brake backing plate, primed and painted, installed new brake wheel cylinders, springs and shoes. Turned drums. Also new rear brake lines. Next step is bleeding and then the front brakes next week. Dual brake master of course: Photos below:

Destin- that garage is way cool!

(and the house and the neighborhood)

Destin-

I like your everchanging array or wheel chocks, but I love the cruiser.

Sunday I pulled the driver's seat out of my new 40 and took the base off, redrilled it 1.25" further back, and drilled two new slots for the seat adjuster latches to catch onto. You can see from the pic just how much further back the driver's seat is than the passenger.

Also decided that the passenger seat back should be somewhat more of a 'quick' release, so I replaced four of the hinge bolts with knurled knobs.

Mark,

Would you do a write up and pics of how you did that to the drivers seat? I have ben NEEDING more leg room on the drivers side and did not know the best way to go about getting as much as possible!

Nice job Destin. Can't wait to see some trail pics after following the buildup.

Today I gave the Gecko her 5000 km oil change and bedlined the interior of the tub. Not worth taking pics of, it's just like it was except um... black and textured.

Tomorrow I'll be reinstalling the space case and Ikea-inspired 20mm ammo can storage system then prepping her for the olive drab goodness that is to come. Then I may spend the evening stitch biatching so I actually have a full soft top for the first time in months.

painted my body and put it on my frame
