Built a set of Frankenhinges so I could finally use the rear swing doors I've had in the shed for years w/o drilling another set of holes in my new tub. Got them done just in time to put the hard top and ambi doors back on for the Winter...

I finally got my LV dragged from Guatemala to Paul Pilgrim´s shop in Costa Rica. What an ordeal!

Removed the choke cable and sheath. Straightened both, cable with a ball-peen, sheath by hand. Greased the cable and reassembled it.

Leaving it out of the truck until I can clean the knob and restore the lettering.

60 Series Rear Heater Switch Install in a 40

Well, on the late model 40s the rear heater is controlled by the heater switch on the dash. It has one speed and gets power only when the front heater is on high.

With the wife delegated to the rear due to the child seat, and not wanting too much heat up front, I though it's be nice to let her control the heater herself.

The center console has a block-off plate presumably for such a switch, but as far as I know it was never an option in the 40. I saw on ebay a switch for the 60 series rear heater, and it looked about right so I bought it.

About 2 years later, winter's coming up, and I thought it's time to get this working.

The switch fits like a champ, and the wiring is really easy - cut rear lead off high switch and wire to power switch behind the dash, and wire in the switch on the now live (with key at ACC) wire under the console.

Works like new and it's OEM parts so it looks sweet - see -

From the last post I thought I'd put in a before and after shot of my engine bay after I removed the air brake setup and high-mounted my alternator.

Work 10/23/09

Drained cooling system, replaced belt, all hoses, checked thermostat, re-sealed thermostat mount, replaced water pump, will continue filling and draining cooling system until water comes out clear, or mostly clear. Right now there's a lot of sediment built up in the system over the years.

This week I did

I pulled the blower and heater box out with sucess without breaking anything. Lots of PB Blaster. Its the little things that count! Heater core doesnt look bad at all but the lower vent is pitted something fierce. Oh well, sandblast and a shot of fresh paint and I'll be ok.

Hinge pins replaced

I went with the cjpluto brass bushings and am happy I did.

Could you tell, please, where did you source the bushings?

Thanks
Don

bought a daily driver so I thoroughly cleaned the 40 and put it back to sleep it the garage. Now it can finally go back to being a once-and-a-while weekend driver like it was prior to 8 months ago.

Moe,
When you replaced the top hinge pins did they clear the window frame?
Thanks
Ken

I was thinking the same. (I think the head must have scraped past with interference.)

When I do my hinges soon - i think I'll dremel one side off the head (of the old top-pins prior to complete-removal and of the new top-pins prior to fitting) like this:
