I bought a Surface Conditioning tool from Harbor Freight and tried it on the bondo/rust.

Surface Conditioning Tool

This thing ROCKS. I would 100% recommend it. It quickly chewed through everything, leaving a nice smooth surface. This was with the 40 grit wheel. There are many grits and even a wire wheel available. That's the good news. The bad news is that it seems Helen Keller welded my tub with her feet. Ugh. This truck is not getting shiny paint any time soon. Hopefully, rattle can flat paint will hide some of the sins as the plan is to get he mechanical end of things done and enjoy the truck. That will let me slowly fix/replace one panel at a time while driving it and still have it looking decent. Nice paint will come later.

Would you say this is faster than angle grinder?

Way, way faster and a much much better and uniform surface finish. This was one single pass moving slow. Maybe 30-45 seconds total.

Sweet. I'm sold. After you said 45 seconds and looking at that amount of progress that seems like a no brainer. I'm working on the same spot after removing the marker lights. Did you ever find gaskets for the back marker lights?

I havent tried yet. The PO siliconed generic lenses directly to the paint. There was no light housing behind it. :bang:

Installed procar buckets definitely a lot more comfortable than the bench just not as cool. Passenger seat sits alittle higher but not very noticeable. Wrapped up sniper install with recurve distributor can't believe the throttle response and noticeable power difference. Still need to upgrade starter and alternator but fine for time being.

Procar’s look the part…A wink and a nod to an OE look. 👍🏻

You might have water coming out of the overflow nipple and running down to where you see it pooling. Do you have a recovery bottle? If not, try running a length of hose from the nipple to well under the truck. That way if it's coming out of there it will leak under the rig but you won't see that pool at bottom of the radiator. If it turns out that it is coming from the overflow, you might just need a new cap and a recovery bottle.
The radiator has adequate water in it now, I might fill it back up to the top to test that out and run the bottler line to a cup. The bottle has no cracks/holes/leaks…so maybe that is it. Maybe I had it overfilled before.

I switched back to my original headlight switch (because why should any of your dash knobs match?!).

I also re-purposed and re-installed the dome light switch as my new Bluetooth amp’s remote switch. The new amp gets switched power from the fuse panel and hides in the glovebox.

I replaced the in-dash wireless amp because I didn’t love the 12V to 24V step up converter to get full power from the in-dash switch.

I don’t have a fancy matching knob, but I’ll post it up in the classifieds if anybody is interested in a stereo setup with wiring that should be plug and play, just add 2 speakers and speaker wire.

Happy 4th!

I have the same headlight switch…I wish there was a decal saying what each setting does. I always have to get out to check…haha

There's like 4 or 5 clicks....for now I don't have a clue what any of them do

I took the truck out for a trial drive today. I got it out on the interstate for a nice long run. I had done some basic maintenance- steering and brake adjustments, oil change, chassis lube, gear oil check, etc after having repaired my exhaust leaks. It runs, drives, steers, stops and sounds like new again. The high temperature header paint held up, so far, so good. Not bad for a 51 year old truck.

This is from my 1967 Owners manual, and matches the function on mine.

The 40 looks awesome. What’s hiding on the left?

Totally agree on the SCT. Parts of my truck were (and still are) covered in this strange textured paint. The tool made quick work of cutting it down to a paintable surface. Yes! Exactly what I have. Now someone please make a decal that looks period correct!! Haha.
I (my wife) can make a decal, but don’t have any idea how to make it useful without being too wordy. What are you thinking?

Maybe just Park On Off Rear?

I think you are onto something. Would be cool if it had a hole in the middle to go around the switch. I wonder how easy it would be to match the Warm hub decal font or maybe there is something else.
