Enjoyed the weather and went shooting in the desert.

Properly aimed Koito H4 and matching Koito fogs really make night driving on dirt so pleasant.

I worked in 'smithy' (a blacksmith shop) before becoming a machinist. I'm inclined to get OEM rivets, as they are still available, and follow the FSM, (pdf) pg. 223

However, in my opinion, some of the frame might be repaired with bolts. The front bumper is attached with bolts, and it is subject to frame twist, and the shackle hanger is right under it? The service-life of bolts should be seriously questioned. The severity of service should be questioned.

Using a bolt to fit in the same diameter of hole proper for a rivet seems like a compromise; enlarging the rivet hole, and modifying the frame, could be a better strategy. Grade 5 (SAE) with Grade B-nuts, or Class 8.8 hardware is commonly available. The use of a fine-thread is preferred over a course-thread. Fine threaded hardware has a greater minor-diameter (thread-root on the screw), so you achieve a greater cross-sectional area of fastener. Flat-washers, on both sides, the head, and nut are a must. A split-type lock-washer is desirable, in my opinion.
Sounds like you're one of very few owners who can set a rivet with a repeatable result, and if I were in your shoes then I'd definitely go down that route.
I'm sure that I could heat one up and smash it with an adapted SDS tool to make it look original - I'm not sure I'd be willing to bet my life on its longevity, although after nearly 50 years of african tracks, all my rivets are still looking good, so maybe there's enough margin built in that it really just doesn't matter.
 
@Aloha Jen posted a photo of her steering wheel 3 weeks ago and it was perfect. A super clean job. I ordered a leather wrap based on her success with what she had done. Just putting it on in the next few weeks. My complaint is that the wheel seems to thin

Dis you get the same Balinous XL1? When I ordered it, it was an M4 and had to send it back…never saw the size selection on the site until too late. Returned and re-ordered…all good now

I thought the wrap looked great, then I looked at the price. I have some tanned deer and elk hides, I might try and cut a one piece circle, soak it and then stitch it in place to dry. I'm fairly sure that Elsie was involved with the harvest - could be her war trophy!
I do leather work too. A while back I watched this trainwreck of a tutorial in two parts. He talks about measuring and cutting to get the fit right.


 
The bores look nice and clean.
Hard to see with the head gasket plastic still on but yes, very nice. Not much cross hatch but no scuffing or ridge to speak of. It had good compression, so I think the leak was coolant passage outwards towards the push rod/lifter cover. The head is at a shop getting pressure tested. Hopefully just a failed HG and not a crack.🤞
 
How do you like the shocks? I just ordered a set to replace the OME shocks I’ve had on for the last 15 years or so. I had noticed a bunch of oil on the left rear leaf when I stripped it down to the frame and wondered if it was from the shock. Got my answer a couple days ago when I got into ground resonance. Thought the rear end was coming off.
Installed 5125s, fixed my parking brake warning light, tried to fix my cruiser lean by swapping front leafs which absolutely didn’t work. Took the dog for a drive and walk by the river.
