Had a stroke of accidental genius tonight while chiseling away the remnants of the asphalt sound/heat insulation on my transmission hump.

If anyone has ever messed with this, you know it takes quite a bit of cheseling, heat, grinding, etc./QUOTE]

I tried a couple of different things, you are right, it can be a mess but then I found this magical stuff:

You are correct, this can be a messy job!! I tried different things--very frustrating until I found this magical stuff:

I thought I’d read you had... but couldn’t spot your post.

Follow up thoughts? I’m considering getting them one day, and would love to get some real world data would be appreciated. How is the ride?

Been running Rancho 5000 since they were the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Much improved over the KYB shocks I had before. Drives and handles better. Takes rough spots on our gravel road better also.

Good to know... the 5000s were never great. Almost any shock would be better than what is there. The original front shocks were too short. Now I’m running a 2nd longer set of “rear shocks” on the front to fit with the taller custom front shocks towers. The valving on the ‘front’ shocks is insufficient.

Out and about first time after some upgrades. TBI lift etc...

Running great!

Spent the week chasing gremlins...installed LED bulbs in all the tail lights, and when I engage the turn signals I get flashing brake lights in addition to turn signals. It all works fine with the original incandescent bulbs, but with LED bulbs only do I get this odd behavior.

Finally discovered this mess tucked away under a bracket in rear bumper. It was crudely tapped into the rear lighting harness. Removed all the taps, cleaned up harness and now it all works perfectly. LED lights are a very nice update...significantly brighter and safer :)

Boy does that look familiar! Funny thing is I had a second entire trailer harness wired into one of my tail lights too.

I had @Coolerman make me a real nice replacement rear harness since mine was pretty mangled. If that’s the route you’re taking I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend his work!

What lift did you go with? HFS? It's a tough call between that and OME for me... Just curious - is there a reason you went with one vs. another or did it come down to price?

This was an HFS lift. 2.5 with 1.5 shackles. This is the first time using the hfs system.
I've used the OME kit many times with great results, but just wanted to try a new system. So far, its performed great on road. They make a big deal about the shackle angle with their kits and their springs do provide great shackle angle out of the box.
Also their kit is less $$ than the OME kit which always helps.

Wow, maybe the same PO owned all three of our rigs because I removed almost the exact same thing from my 40. All lights are working now except for brake lights--will get taken care of within the next week.

Thanks! I have @Coolerman working on a Fusable Link right now...I'll ask him too add this as well.

Literally nothing. It's a thousand odd kays away.

I've had really mixed results with Easy Off - I went through a lot of it cleaning up my 283 (before I figured out it had eaten its main bearings) and my trans/transfer case. It got rid of looser stuff and definitely de-greased, but didn't seem to cut the really gnarly, caked on stuff. The only thing that seems to get that was abrasives and scraping.
