Normally the last week in April is our 1st. camping trip of the season, but I had a dr. appt. mid week and it screwed that up so I spent the week washing and waxing the whole rig to an embarrassing shine. Seriously the cleanest it's been since I've owned it, and then drove it to our annual swap meet and rally to be the ultimate "poser".

Drove over to Law Dog’s place Saturday where he ground-down the broken female end of my hood prop rod, drilled a new hole, and treated the bare metal with gun blue...first time the hood rod has been properly mounted since I took possession in 2003.

Drove to one of two non-ethanol stations in town to fill up with 92 test...

Knowing I only had a 30% chance of staying dry. Bimini works okay for water when driving...but the 20 minute stop at Lowe’s was devastating.

I drove my FJ40 over to my brother-in-law's house to help him work on something and low and behold I found some old jump seats I left in his shop years ago and forgotten all about them after I had sold a previous FJ40 I owned. What a surprise! Too bad I've already purchased a set from someone on here a year or so ago. So these ones will need to be sold on to a good home here soon.

I started to tear my interior out to seal some stuff up and install a new fuel tank. Unfortunately I am cramped on space right now, but the weather is nice so I parked the 40 outside while I work on it.

Chased some threads that hold the tranny cover in place, now to find some foam weatherstripping to seal it up when I put it back in.

I’m also thinking about putting the original seats and brackets back in, that has yet to be decided. I love the BMW seats but the fuel tank puts the passenger seat too high. I might go back to the drawing board.

Take this thing off and toss it in the trash and you can engage 2 low with the hubs locked. Nice feature on tight trails.

Pulled the radiator, had two leaks soldered, flush, then I repainted rad (needs some touch up) and painted shroud, new drain plug with O-ring, new cap and reinstalled. Easy peasy.
Replaced oil pressure sender that had broken terminal.

Need to read the FAQ on how to post a video but was at the shop today and I must say my rig is running strong. The mechanics concurred with the prior owner's father that my FJ40 most likely did not turn the odometer and has 74K. The compression is very high and I do recall the owner's father (whose son, a Navy Seal who got killed in 04' did not drive it much up until his death) said the rig has been run very little in the past 30 years. With that said, lots of deferred maintenance as you can see from my prior posts. No leaks whatsoever nor should there be after replacing many gaskets, seals and all hoses, lines, ujoints, etc. Good news--I get it back next week and I can work on getting the headlights and brake lights working--all other lights and all gauges work fine.

It's not unusual for an older FJ40 to have low mileage, my '76 has ~65,000 original miles and the 2F purrs like a kitten, especially after I adjusted the valves.

First post in a few years here in the 40 section. I just bought these 2 40s. The one with a hood will be a nice stock looking 40. The one without the hood will be upgraded and turned into a crawler.
Currently using some of the parts off the white one to fix the other. It was rolled a few weeks ago so just replacing parts that I can to save me some time with body work.
