Along with the power steering and disc brakes, the 5 speed and split case install was one of the best things I have done to my 40. The 5 speed helps it to stay up with traffic and not sound like it is ready to grenade on me. You will like the difference.

Bought another one! :bang: Not sure i am able stop even with an intervention. But hard to pass up a Troopy like this anywhere!

1980 HJ45 LV. Rear tub and floors in great shape with no cancer. Original seats, roof and frame in great shape...driver and passenger Doors are gone but has all we need to restore this beauty back to life.

Goose gets a new set of Tie Rod Ends and Center Arm Rebuild kit. In the process new OEM nuts/bolts/clamps for the tie rod ends, powder coated the tie rods & pitman arm as well as painted the TRE's before installing.

In the end it took some slop out and tightened up the steering - which my wife likes!! Another benefit is that I no longer have a small ‘clunk’ when hard turning to the right. I knew one of the tie rod ends was bad and this cleaned up that noise too.

Huge thanks to members here through sharing tips and pointers while completing these two DIY repairs. Comments about measuring before and documenting along the way had Goose steering straight once she was put back together. Of course I still took her in for an alignment afterwards, but helpful points of information.

Thanks Mud

Always good when the wife likes ‘anything’ having to do with your LC! :)
Curious as to what the name of the part is on the far right hand side in your last photo?
I put a handy pointer in so you’ll know what I’m referring to

I think it will be worth it for sure!!! Since Alaska is so big... the extra gear will make my 2f (only has 3k miles on rebuild) my lifetime.. and on.

Need to finish installing the carbon fiber seat heaters and bleed the clutch master.

Using the @Poser 40-series FAQ thread in conjunction with the @Racer65 Unobtainium thread I went on a mission to locate the an original beverage for FJ40 Owners. Often talked about is hard to find JIS bolts, unavailable gaskets or NLA lights. Overlooked in the backbone to a good FJ40 is the elusive beverage for the owner. Beer isn’t necessarily a beverage for all owners, which I fully understand. For those that like beer, cheers to you.

Some might look to Germany for a pilsner, New England for a Sam Adams, or the Rockies for a Coors to fill the gap. Others will scour Kentucky for a bourbon or the deserts of Mexico for tequila. My quest for the elusive beverage was the San Diego region. Peppered with nearly 125 independent breweries, narrowing down the right one will take some time. Over the my DIY projects I am sure you will see similar pictures of bottles, cans or glasses - each with a unique taste and story.

For this project I used a Lost Abbey Devotion. Link

I am taking one for Team Mudd in that quest and will continue to share pictures along the way.

Ahh... such a ‘devine’ quest for a respectable brew should not be taken alone!
