Well it came time to say goodbye to "Olive". She is going to another mud member who will take good care of her, so if you know @dogfishlake tell him welcome to the 40 club!

You are making a lot of progress, wish I had your pace.

Thanks Michael, I want to be driving her in May. I've got a long way to go, so I've got to keep motivated. You and the rest of the guys that have builds going on keep me focused, and I use a lot of the stuff y'all are doing to decide how I do mine.

One side may or may not be done. Knuckle seems really stiff to turn and I can't turn the birf by hand, but it does spin when I turn the flange at the diff.

I may get to try again tomorrow.

Who's rotors did you use? Are those new locking hubs? How long / tall are they?

These are the Terrain Tamer rotors that Georg (@orangefj45) carries. Hubs were disassembled, painted, and reassembled with new hardware. These are the short bodied hubs btw.

Took the day off to go perving.

Local annual car show and I thought I'd go down and maybe get to meet some Cruiser fans.

I found one beauty. '73 FJ45. F155 motor. Was rebuilt in Johannesburg 4 years ago and has since only done 400km. Owned by Louis de Wet.

Nice, nice...

And then my camera battery went flat before I could take under hood and interior. The standard on those are equally good.

There are very few pre '75/76 45 series TLCs in SA so their parts are very scarce. Louise is looking for a windscreen washer bottle which is the last item needed to complete. I've undertaken to try to find one for him in the USA when I'm next there (April on). Can anybody help, please?

A question for the aficionados... Is the indicator light on the hood skirt the right way around? Should the thick end of the black lamp body be toward the front or the back?

And then just for fun two other interesting/unusual pick-ups.

CANADIAN BUILT MODEL T PICK-UP.

This vehicle has been owned by the same family since new and actually still works almost everyday on their farms. She came just as she is in her working clothes, no wash and shine.

After several days of checking out various systems and performing some needed maintenance my wife and I took my '76 FJ40 up in the mountains above town this evening to gain some confidence before my upcoming legs of the FJ40 Cross Country Expedition. We visited one of the newest additions to the National Park System, in our very backyard - the Valles Caldera National Preserve. For a few Saturday evenings this winter, nearest the full moons, they keep the visitor center open until 10 p.m., primarily for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. It's been too warm this past week, even at 9,000 feet, and much of the snow cover needed for snowshoeing has melted off. It didn't keep us from heading up there anyway, so we enjoyed a 4-mile full moon hike along the road to the historic ranch Headquarters area. It's the same area as Sheriff Longmire's cabin (from the TV series). Here's the FJ40 in the visitor center parking lot after returning from the hike:

Here are some photos from our last two snowshoe outings (within the last two weeks) in the Preserve:

Thick part goes towards the front as pictured. Gasket helps to align light given the front apron tapers towards the front.

I finally got to power up the DD. Check out the reflection in the new column cover.
