Many years ago, not long after we bought our '84 FJ60 new from Toyota West in Las Vegas, we ventured up into the Sheep Range north of town. Back then not many people headed up that way. Near the top of the divide, before you drop down and to the east towards US 93, there was a concrete picnic table by the side of the dirt two-track (a lot of which was almost obliterated by washouts). It kind of surprised me to see it up there. The location, just another spot in the sagebrush, actually had a name - Mormon Pass Picnic Area.

Scraped / chipped off the driver side floor pad off the floor pan; started chemically removing rust...It's a slow method, but not a lot of work. A few more treatments to go.

Using a particular product? Or homemade blend? I've found success with a couple different ones. Jescos I think it's called, naval jelly, aircraft remover and evaporust are some of the ones I've found at big box retailers that work. I saw that method somewhere I had forgotten about it where you cover with shrink wrap and it keeps the remover from evaping and makes it work better.

Still there, obviously modernized at some point. Four free camp sites (table, fire pit), one group site, two vault toilets.

6600', still the same name in the mileage sign, but has a different name at the campground, "Desert Pass"... 28 miles from the DNWR Corn Creek Visitor Center, off US95... About 19 miles west of US93... The road, east of the campground, for about 10 miles is a flash flood area... Major flooding all the way east, past Sawmill Canyon (a huge drainage).

Mark (@65swb45 ) and I had Chester up there, in the refrozen snow, about three weeks ago... daBoise and I drove up there after the last big snow, about two weeks ago... It was still snowed in, but pretty muddy at lower elevations.

Worked on freshinging up a jump seat and disassembled the blower motor to rebuild and freshen up. Also wiped up some oil around the pcv valve and put a hose clamp on it instead of a zip tie that I reused not knowing better. I'm thinking that will hold better and prevent the leak. Seems to have helped so far with the engine running for about 30 mins

I've got the Weber carb, is this where the pcv valve should be plumbed?
I started second guessing it when I saw oil around the valve.

I can't answer for a Weber, but are you sure you don't have your pcv upside down?

It should vent the crankcase, so the obe-way pcv should draw FROM the crankcase.

Center arm rebuild (2 times), drag link rebuild, and rag joint replacement. This coupled with new TRE's, steering stabilizer, and front end alignment. Steering is tight!

Snapped this shot on the test drive.

Had some friends visit us here in the UAE and took them out for a desert BBQ... required the 40 and 80 to get everyone out there (4 adults and 6 kids).

I'm in the process of doing the same with my front end. I like the 5687! How was rebuilding the center arm, did you leave it bolted up?

My wife and I'll have to check it out next time we pass by to our way to our place in Indian Springs. Late last year we noticed that they finally paved the road into Corn Creek. We've never taken the drive to Alamo, just made it as far as Hidden Forest road about ten years ago. We parked there and started to hike up the canyon but didn't get very far because the snow was getting pretty deep (pre-snowshoe days).

I removed it to rebuild it since I ended up blasting and painting. It was an easy job until I crossthreaded the lower threads when I was putting it all back together. Had to buy a die since my kit didn't go that big (m16x1.5). Buy a big washer as the lock washer was too thick for the nut to engage the threads and the nut by itself can start getting damaged as it is a pretty small diameter that digs into the center arm.

Good idea
I didn't think of that. I'll check it, I'm guessing pulling off the hose and putting my finger over the pcv I should fell a push.

The draw for the PCV on the 2F is under the carburetor, on a fitting sticking out the side of the intake manifold.

I thought I read somewhere it was a different spot than where mine is. So I thought to ask.

I do have some oil around the front of the valve cover like described in the second post.
so I won't clog up this thread with questions if best we can move to my thread.

Pull the pcv off and blow through both ends (one end at a time ;)), you'll see the difference.

Put a face lift on my roll cage and brush guard this weekend. I used the Krylon Dual Satin paint for the first time. I think I like it better than the Rustoleum that I have typically used. Anyone else using the Krylon Dual paint?

Here is the before picture. I had to wire wheel the feet to clean up all the rust.

Deadman Canyon, into Hidden Forest, can be very cold, with a lotta snow. The snow is slow to melt because of all the shade in the canyon. The scree and the constant incline make it challenging.

Alamo Road is now (last couple of years) open all the way to Alamo (80 miles)... Since they cut a "road" around the east end of the dry lake. It's not as pretty as Mormon Well Road. It's worth the drive nonetheless, for the diversity... Different view of mountains, lower elevation (IIRC Sheep Pass is the highest and it's IIRC about 4800'), dry lake, sand dunes, etc..

Be sure you carry plenty of water, tools and spares... I very rarely see another soul past Hidden Forest turnoff.

I've screen shot a few posts I think will be helpful from searching on here. I wish I had gotten the posters names for credit, look like good helpful posts.

Looking at your first pic again, it looks like you have the PCV hose running to the brake booster port.

I can't get a good picture of the port my PCV runs to... Too much Snorkle hose, etc. in the way... But, as Mark said, it comes out of the intake manifold , directly below the carb , And faces the driver's side.

Gary (@sggoat) mentioned your valve cover breather... It normally pulls fresh air, into the valve cover, from the Aisin air cleaner... You have a Weber... You don't have that large (5/8" or so) port called/plugged, on the driver's side, rear of your valve cover, do you?

Before my 2F was rebuilt, it had so much blowby that, rather than PULL fresh air into the valve cover, it was PUSHING blowby into the air cleaner... There was so much pressure, it blew the oil filler cap off.

That port should not be capped.
